How to Perform: Transabdominal Ultrasound

This video I had to do for a project to showcase how we perform a transabdomjnal ultrasound to my school’s protocol! So please do not criticize the way or order this exam is in. Every sonographer scans differently.
Many protocols are different so keep that in mind. This protocol may not be the same as other as far as the order however all of these images are required in this exam.
The purpose to perform a TA ultrasound may be to assess the uterus for any anomalies or pathologies such as fibroids or growths. Also pregnancy can be seen as well in a TA ultrasound. You can also use this to evaluate the ovaries for many reasons such as for cyst or ovulation by looking at follicles, etc.
This will give you an idea on what goes in a regular exam room and what images you’d be taking. This exam also goes hand in hand with an exam called Transvaginal exam which may come secondary to a Transabdominal exam. This can give a more clear view when some things are difficult to see on top.

Maybe this sounds kinda dumb, but before you started the program did you have a hard time figuring out what was what on the monitor? If yes, did it get easier to read throughout your program?

oh yes! it definitely gets easier. when you start the program, they will explain to you how the anatomy is on the person compared to on our screen. There are rules and steps in understanding how it looks on the screen! dont worry! it was so confusing at first!

As someone who is as well in the Ultrasound program, yes it was definitely weird seeing the screen for the first time. I would see my teacher always point out the organs with ease, and I was like "dude how?". But it gets easier to where you know what things look like and are. So don't be afraid, in the beginning it's hard to decipher what things are but just take pictures if you're allowed to study some images, know where things are anatomically located and you'll be a pro 😊

Was the doctor performing a pelvic or an abdominal ultrasound Because it’s not necessary to fill your bladder for an abdominal scan unless you’re doing pelvic with it

The bladder can be filled and also after they are done, they will have you empty it and do it again.

nahh thats a diff imaging modality. it never caught my interest. MRIwould be more for radiology tech. ultrasound i feel like is completely different than the other modalities.

depending on which exam. some can take 30-45 mins. some can take 10 if its simple and a small body area!

i believe those are completely different professions and programs. i know a few rad tech that cross train into it but you can go from ultrasound to radiology without a whole new training. different imaging modalities!

I have abnormal bleeding but my doubt is I didn't drink water exact 32 oz water before my test. I drank 2 cups water before half n hour my test. Was that ok hopefully it didn't effect my transabdominal ultrasound result plz reply me doctor
