Old video but glad I came across it. I've been doing insect macro while surrounded by frogs. The thought of photographing them crossed my mind and now I know how to go about it. 👍

I never even considered photography frogs/etc at night. Did not think it was possible. Now I know. And I have a good idea about how to do that. I like th penlight in the soft box, great idea. Thanks for sharing.

@@NeilJernigan We are in our dry season now. but, I will definitely look for opportunities to try your technique. I need a small soft box. The only one I have is too big. Thanks for the inspiration.

Very nicely done Neil. Good content, good tips and well presented. I particularly like that you keep to the point and don't waffle on like some presenters.

You were making me nervous with that camera on your knee and all that water around
@NeilJernigan7 жыл бұрын
Haha .. yeah. I don't like straps so I hand hold my camera all the time. Knock on wood I haven't dropped it yet. I try not to let locations worry me, if I did I wouldn't shoot there
@Connor_wildWorld10 ай бұрын
@@NeilJernigan you should get a hand strap, i have one because i hate the feeling of the strap around my neck but i'm very clumsy and drop almost everything (except for animals and most babies) and the hand strap just feels heeps more secure

Really enjoyed both your frog videos. I love photographing frogs calling like that and you inspired some new ideas for me. But I also was terrified seeing your camera in your lap like that with no strap!!! Just for the record your Green Treefrogs" are actually Squirrel Treefrogs and your Gray Treefrogs are Cope's Gray Treefrogs (a different species than the Gray Treefrog).

Hi Neil, you used 5DMk4 so you can use eye tracking focus to shoot it, how it can be done in 5dMk3.

Very well put together video Neil with some useful tips - two questions though. Firstly, I guess you were aiming and firing and not using 'live view', I wasn't sure? And, secondly, were you on back-button focusing, it looked like it?

Hi, Neil, I am green in flashlight photography. Is it not recommend to use TTL in such situation?
@NeilJernigan3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Shooting in total darkness, the flash will want to shoot at full power. That would be too bright and my recycle time would be far to great. So by shooting manually I can optimize the recycle time/battery life and create the light that I want and not what the flash dictates. Hope this helps!

Thanks! I use manual flash 99% of the time. I can control the final image better than TTL.

Recently moved to NC from CT. We have tree frogs but OMG... Not like this! I moved to Southport in April 2020. Yes... Covid... SUCKS... Nights here are like spring in CT multiplied by 100! I have see some pretty cool critters here... wicked huge walking sticks, mole crickets, territorial toads and a few tree frog species! Watched this video and if our world rights itself once again, please let me know.... I got you
