Just want to say, I love this series. Most tutorials about photography using smart phones aren’t about handmade creations. This was very relatable!

This is what i was searching for a long time and finally i found it. All episodes r amazing . I want to ask of what material the fall sheets made of ? Are these shinny like acrylic sheets or not Kindly guide me

The sheets are foam core boards. They can typically be purchased at craft or art supply stores. The boards have a smooth matte finish. Some may have a slightly more glossy finish, but you don't want the finish to be too shiny or else you will get too much light reflection off of the board.

@@FireMountainGems thanks alot for reply can we use white chart pasted in a cardboard ? Does it solve the purpose ?

@@mira_jewellz As long as the white material is not too glossy or reflective that should definitely work!

Why not have another light shining from the opposite side? And use a shadow box? I’m trying to learn what it takes to make great jewelry photos & I see these shadow boxes used to filter the light.

Great question! Adding another light can be a good solution but it can have drawbacks. Sometimes when you add a second light all of a sudden you have TWO shadows instead of one! Sure, each shadow will not be as bright as before but they can still be distracting. The same goes for highlights, each light you add will make another highlight and often that can just be another distraction. A fill card is especially great for beginners because it keeps the set simple and that keeps distractions to a minimum. Regarding a shadow box, they can be great for reducing shadows but they can tend to make the whole picture very low contrast. On jewelry, especially glass and gemstones, extremely low contrast can make your piece look very dull. Lighting is all about trade-offs. We hope that helps.

@@FireMountainGems thanks, that is helpful. So much to learn. And photography really isn’t my thing!
