Good video! I also follow Dr. Dray and she says that if a retinol is working for you sometimes there is no need to “upgrade” to a higher strength not everything is about just trying to get the highest strength/percentage of a product.

Yeah I was relieved hearing this when I found out because I don't want to use something strong or super strong when I don't actually NEED to. My problem is acne (I'm not sure if hormonal or not), clogged pores, some discoloration/superficial scars from said acne, and some sensitivity. It's hard to not want to try things other people are just because you want their results 😬 I'm trying to start from the beginning and work my way up as needed. It'll take years but I don't see any other way.

@@CoffeeandtyposI found that I got almost no irritation with the dermalogica clearing oil and the new ELF advanced night retinoid serum. I like the dermalogica but wouldn't spend the money again 😅 Edit: I have gotten to the point where I can use the clearing oil every night. The elf is a little stronger based on the ingredients/percentages. I am currently playing all my retinoids any percent speed run because my dermatologist wants me to just swap to tret 😢

@lelalu101 I appreciate this and the update! It seems tret is something that is a quick go-to 'solution'. This bugs me because it's not for everyone, yet some drs rather spend less time getting to know your skin and just want you out the door (which is how it seems sometimes)

@@Coffeeandtypos while I absolutely agree that it does seem to be a go to Too Often, I am a bit of an odd bird. I have PCOS acne so she also upped my Spiro and added a clindamycin/Benzoyl peroxide topical as well. It was the last thing we discussed due to my deep scarring and extremely pale skin. If everyone got that kind of care we would probably go to the derm as an earlier option than spending thousands on skincare 😤💕 I might ask to switch to adapelene depending on how the next few months go!

I'm 53 and I use tretinoin for my face since many years. For the last 6 months, I began to apply it in a very thin layer around my eyes and it goes well. I use retinaldehyde for my neck because it's less irritating. Let's mention that I use retinoids every other day, alternating with a repairing barrier routine like niacinamide and copper peptides.

I'm 47, and I'm starting a routine similar to yours. I have great skin I look young. My biggest problem that makes me look old as hell are hormonal freckles/melasma. Which has gotten worse, since I'm going through menopause. Smooth as silk at 47, except my freckled cheek! I plan to get the freckles lasered, but I should wait until menopause is over. Then get a course of laser treatments and it will vanish. My dermatologist is nice enough to tell me, wait till your hormones are done. Don't get any procedure now. I'm going insane, I don't know when my period will be over. This really effects my self esteem. I don't like make up, I don't know what to do. Anyone out there who is going through or knows how to deal with my problem. Please I'm desperate. Oh I have used Murad hyperpigmentation serum, Dermaceutics Yellow cream, palmers spot cream. It's just on both my cheeks. Cheers from Hong Kong.

Tretinoin can be used with care, and most dermis don’t tell their patients how to properly use it. Wait 30 MINUTES after cleansing face to use it to allow your normal oils to come back up. This helps protect the skin. Use ONLY 1/2 of a pea size for your entire face. I use it twice a week, have used it for over thirty years, am 75, and have terrific, smooth skin. I use 0.05. Great video. Just remember: wait 30 minutes.

@maxhall2086
@maxhall2086 4 ай бұрын
@@jonesb80jr You can do that to help buffer it. Someone people do a "retinol sandwich" and put moisturiser, retinoid, moisturiser. I think it really depends on your skin, your tolerance levels and skin sensitivity. You can phase the pre-moisturiser out when you've used for a while, probably. I personally use a small amount of the Cosrx snail power mucin, it helps buffer and contains ingredients that help soothe the skin.

MD Anderson dermatologist did a skincare video, and that’s what she recommended for aging skin over the counter - adapalene. I’ve never tried the prescription one, so I’m going to try adapalene first over the county. I’m in my late 40’s (have great skin) but just started Tamoxifen. So I want to make sure I don’t age faster 😂 - and will try adapalene to counteract what tamoxifen might do

I actually went through 2 bottles of this. I liked the texture and product itself, but I didn't notice it did anything to my skin. So I'm looking to try something else. I recall Differin Adapalene making me itch severely (like a week+ of itching), so I avoided it ever since. But I recently found out about the AcneFree version and might try that. It doesn't help that I can't recall if I even used the first Adapalene correctly (since I didn't know much about skincare then, and don't recall my doctor telling me how best to use it), so I guess I'm going to restart the process. 🤔

Not sure if you're using the 1 or the 3 percent adapolene. If you're using 1 percent, you can move up to the 3, however you do need an Rx for it. Adapolene is going to be a better choice for the adult acne since that is what it's main purpose is. It does also help with aging skin. I use the o.3 percent and it's equivalent to 0.5 percent tretinoin with way less irritation .

You will see a smooth ending glossy to touch effect on skin soon after application but if u don’t have acne then the only change u see will be long term and will be in the form of slow aging. So I can’t use the cerave one if I have very light acne? Like I get maybe a cyst once a month but I want to use it for the marks and also fine lines.

You can start with a weaker product then sl8wly move up. I am 76 have very fair del7cate sk7n but uave worked up to Tretinoin even on my eye area, neck, upper chest...I use it on the backs of my uamds lower arms to elbow and under arms because some wrinkling was showing up there. Im stopping there those are the areas exposed to the view of others.

If going on a Hawaii vacation when I"ll be out in the sun all day hiking, etc.,(not sunbathing), should I stop the nightly retinol cream? I will be wearing a big hat and will try to be vigilant in reapplying sunscreen every 2-3 hrs.

Very helpful information. I have been using and tolerating retinol moisturizers (both the neutrogena and Olay that you recommended). I just started tretinoin gel .5% and seem to be tolerating well. I am applying gel straight to dry skin and following with basic moisturizer and eye cream every other night. As I transition to daily application, Is it safe/beneficial to add back in a serum before the moisturizer and could I use the Olay moisturizer with retinol and peptides over the tretinoin?

I reacted with breakout and redness & burning skin to the Cerave SA cleanser and Moisturising Lotion (dry to very dry skin)… I have sensitive skin and some pimples every now and then. Should I stay away from the Cerave Retinol serum since I haven’t reacted positively to the other Cerave products? I’m thinking about using the La Roche Posey you mentioned or The Ordinary Retinols Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion… Anyone got some tips? I’m really new to skincare haha

the cerave cleanser you mentioned does have salicylic acid which is an active, and is used for exfoliation, therefore if it is used on a regular basis on the face it can be irritating (i’ve dealt with that same issue). This specific cleanser i belive is best used just on the body, especially during the winter, i used to get a couple dry patches on my arm that this cleanser paired with a nourishing moisturiser really helped with. So even though i’m not an expert i don’t think that the cerave retinol would be specifically irritating because of this especially as long as you make an effort to maintain your skin barrier healthy (by moisturising regularly and wearing sunscreen daily, but if not, at least the day after you’ve applied the retinol). Hope this helped! :)

SA is an active ingredient that dries out the skin. I'm not an expert but I'm assuming SA is your problem and not the brand. I've found from experience that the SA cleanser is best for oily skin and that CeraVe's hydrating cleanser is better for dry skin.

Why all retinods suddenly stop working? I used many brands and types and they work in few months then after that they make my skin so irritated. I can't use them long term. What baffles me is why do I get irritation after using them after months and not when I was still beginning to use them?
