Once my mom was holding my guinea pig and she jump off of her hands and I caught her in the air and my heart stopped for a minute and my guinea pig was completely fine.it was terrifying😱

u might want to have a cage with a lid so the cats dont do anything dumb if u know what i mean but any way GET 2 GUINEAPIGS! i regreted not getting 2 and 1 more thing get a american short haired because obsideon guineapigs shed a HOLE LOT in the summer and im a little allergic to the hair when she scartches me it leaves bumps but it usaly goes away fast.

Pet Supplies Plus and they were only like 30 dollars with the card. My grandma wanted to gat a bird and in my mind I was all "HELL NO" last time I had a bird my cat ate it and that is why I seperate the two Guinea Pig and cat. The cool thing is my Guinea Pig looks like my cat. They are both calico and the cat is named Fabrina the Guinea Pig is named Freddy!

My guinea pig lets me hand feed him and pet him, but whenever I try to pick him up (while cleaning the cage/ for lap time) he freaks out and tries to kick my hands away using his hind legs, and sometimes scratches me. I've had him for a week now, and I try not to annoy him, but I do have to clean his cage and give him lap time, so it's important to get him out of his cage and pick him up. Any advice? Why is he so skittish?

Maybe he's not used to you. Be kind and gentle with him and try to gain his trust. Once you see he's totally calm and content, try to pick him up. If he freaks out, put him back in. Try again some other time. Or, you could set him on your lap (but block the exits), and pet him a little to calm him. Just do anything to gain his trust. :)

hate to break it to ya but they will always be skittish so you will have a hard time lol. what you can do is lead hiim into his home upside down or something and transfer to his othe cage.

Guinea pigs need about a week or more to get used to you before you can pick them up, hold them or have lap time. espeically if you just got him

All u really need is corplax, medal grids, u can get from creigs list or target now (i think target im not 100% sure) and fleese! Then u can buy food bowls, water bottles, hay rack, and some sort of shelter;-)

Yes, they may bite if they feel unsafe or scared. It is important to make sure they are well supported to keep them from jumping from your arms and so that they feel comfortable :)

Hey, here are your questions answered. 1: Yes and no... It depends on what you mean by easy. But I think they are easy to look after but I hate cleaning there cages. 2: Yes there cages can get stinky but that is only if you don't clean them often. You can also litter train (some) guinea pigs. 3: All guinea pig have different personalties so some may be and some may not be as easy to tame. 4: Guinea pigs can bit if they get scared or if they want you to stop playing or patting them. 5: If they bit you it should not hurt. Hope it helps! :) Coming from my own experiences with piggies.

Do not chase your piggie if they are scared.Put a covered cushion in the cage and gently encourage them to go in it. Then pick up the cushion and put it on the floor with some treats nearby. They will soon associated the cushion with treats and you will have no problem taking them out. Repeat this action daily. You will soon have no issue.

He will not let me take him out of the cage. I don't know if he's just excited or hyper. But when I try he runs out popcorning or whatever sometimes squeaking. My 3 year old Piggy appeared to be agitated and moved her head quickly to bite me. I felt her teeth but it didn't hurt. But I took it as a warning. FuzzyPuppyLuver I have 2. And I couldn't pick them up either. I learned be still when you put your hand in the cage. Don't move your hand too fast, just very gentle..then when she runs under her house be gentle, putting your hand on her softly..pick her/ him up fast. Worked for me, hope this helps you :D

Of course, your right too, but I think you have to show the piggies who is the boss by not backing down cause they'll get used to being able to run away. Don't think that I'm forcing them badly, it's just that I think it's better to pick them up anyways and then giving them a treat to calm down. Just my opinion. Merry Christmas by the way :)

What if their cage has two floors and they jump up and down from it? Would it break their leg? My piggy has been doing that for two weeks. He does not whimper or anything and when I watched this video I got very concerned about him.

They could possibly break a leg from jumping down, depending on how high of a jump it is. But jumping down in general can be harmful to their spines, so its best to use a ramp.

yeah, it was dumb of me to try and pick him up too soon, sadly my orange one died, I think it got too cold, we have a heater on beside the other one and my bunny, but now he's gotten way used to us packing him, at first I thought that Hampsters were better cause we used to have a few Hampsters, but I got used to having the Guinea Pig and I like him, just makes a lot more noise than the Hampsters ever did, but I think I like it now

Hmmm...sometimes guinea pigs will cry if they are not used to being held and scared. Also ensure you are not petting or moving their fur in the wrong direction, as it can discomfort them. I'm sure the more you handle them the sooner they will be comfortable will it :)
