I was told to never put your hand in their hide out to try and grab them, since that’s their safe spot.

It depends on the guinea pig and circumstance. I've had people tell me they haven't picked up their guinea pigs in months because they are too scared and the gpigs' health suffers (overgrown nails, unknown bumps, no human contact). This is dangerous and in this case, their health comes before their "safe spot." A guinea pig would rather a quick pick up than to be chased relentlessly around the cage trying.

I usually just pick them up from the sides because that’s where their eyes are and they will be able to see me coming. It works pretty well for me.

I pick mine up by her bottom first, one hand there & the other the front gently, she doesn't run away as she completely trusts me. Sometimes she doesn't want to get off my arms when I try to put her back in her cage! She's so cute.

Thats the same ways I use. Ive been taking in unwanted pigs for 10 years and these three ways are the only ways Ive found. Its true however that very trusting ones will step up partially onto your hands to be lifted sometimes. This is very rare.

I am so happy my friend thought of me since he knows I rescued my sweet amazing cats n have rescued pigeons when, he found two guinea pigs some selfish horrible person who didn’t take the time to do better or care about their well being abandoned them in a box on the street. They r mine now n I been reading n looking at vids that help me do good for them and I gotta say the guinea mom on the vid really knows how to do what’s right. Supporting the bottom helps them 💕Guinea piggies, cats, dogs (if small like mine)feel safe n providing the support they need when we pick them up. It’s like a human baby…would u think it’s ok to let the legs dangle …nope cause it’s weight n hurts them. My guinea boy did bite my friends finger when he went in their safe home so it is best to do how she did it in the vid lifting their safety home. We have to clean their home, carefully clip the nails so it’s necessary to get them in our arms. Thanks for this vid

😮 and I thought my guinea pigs were huge lol it was nice to see some guinea pigs that are actually the same size or even a little bigger than mine. My vet keeps saying they’re overweight, but they are males and their active and they do eat but I don’t overfeed them. I think they’re just fluffy!😂 Also, I trained my guinea pigs to jump in their cuddle sack, all I do is point to it they jump in and I pick them up. It works great! Thanks. for sharing. When I got my boys, I had no experience with guinea pigs and grabbed them a few times, but I quickly figured out that they preferred when I held out my old crocheted hat and hopped in. Right now, I have some baskets made out of that thick fluffy yarn, and they're very happy with that. :)

I’ve owned Guinea pigs since I was 4 they way I hold them is I put my hand on the front paws and when they get on my hand. Use my other hand and scoop there bottom and I let them lay on my arm with the other being a wall so they won’t fall

I flip a box hidey over and the pigs run into it, sometimes they don’t want to but if I’ve already transported one outside in the box the other will probably hop in too. Same with going inside, I place the box there and sometimes my piggies just instantly hop into it even if there’s no treats or hidey in it. I like to lure my piggie Pee Wee onto the side of the cage with a treat, then I pick him up, it’s easier

You gotta stick your hand in the hideout to let him know that you are there are going to lift the hideout so you don't spook him. You then slowly lift the hideout until you can get a grip on them. Don't bolt to pick them up because it might scare the piggy. Try to do things slowly.
