Thanks for the advice I have a baby guinea pig and two adult guinea pigs don’t worry the two adults are females and my baby is a female
@kevins111410 жыл бұрын
I have my piggies trained to voluntarily get on my open hand. I started them out as babies, gently working my hand underneath each one, while offering a bribe of a piece of lettuce. Now, they voluntarily get on my hand because they associate that action with floor time. All I have to do now is say "Who wants to come out to play?" and put my hand in the cage, and they'll line up to take turns getting in my hand to go play. When they're ready to go back in the cage, they try to get in my hand and look at the cage. They do that because I sit on the floor with them during floor time.

Smart. Sadly my Guinea pig is adopted And his 3 years old. The previous owner sadly must have never trained him to be picked up because he really cannot stand it. Hes fine if you pick him up in his bed but if you try to pick him up with this hand he runs like hes running for his life

My female guinea pigs are dramatic divas.. When i pick them up they scream as if to warn the others of danger. My boys used to be cool about being picked up but the females squeled something to them about me.. and so now they squeel too.. But once I hold them they're all calm. The drama..lol
@isitoveryet95255 жыл бұрын
Lol My piggies are the opposite. My girls are so calm & collected, but my boys are as dramatic as it gets. One of the boys, Tucker, isn't as bad as Mikey....Mike always acts as if the world's ending when he has to be picked up. He's about as high strong as it gets lol.

Fab video, new owner of two guineas, one is very nervous and hates being picked up, tries to escape, he lasted less then a minute on my lap yesterday! He will take food from me and sniffs & licks my hand so thats a start. His bro is the boss and has sat on my lap twice, 2nd time about 5 mins, ate some lettuce and settling down, they are adopted and about 6 mts old, only had them 5 days! Thanks for your videos they are so helpful xx
@kallankummel8351 Жыл бұрын
@TJDevon009, I have two myself, got them around July, one gives me kisses, both climb on my leg, and sit on my lap, one sleeps on my side, the other sleeps right beside me, all under the blanket if I try to pick them up, they will run, I know eventually I'll have to trim their nails, but as of right now, I have very fine sandpaper that when they play and run acrossd them, it will trim their nails

I LOVE how Annie curled up in the bed like I'm not cooperating for this video heehee! Great video, Sprite was so calm! Phinni and Sammi love head pets and chin tickles in their cage but hate being picked up and are so quick to try and escape so I actually find waiting until they are in something like a tunnel the easiest. I just pick the entire thing up and encourage them out on to my lap for veggies. Oh you are now mentioning this hahaha should have waited until the end of the video to comment! ;)

I live in the U.S. And there are not many people fond of guinea pigs it seems, and many think I'm crazy, but I love them, and have four of my own. I'm just happy I'm not the only one that cares so much about this animal, many people just don't give them a chance. Thank you for doing your videos, they are amazing :)

If you cant find a big cage find the lagest dog crate you can find and add a second fllor with some wood and then a ladder to get to it. this is what I will be doing with my guinnea pigs and ir is a decent size. Definately bigger than any small pet cage and giving them a lot of floor time is definately ideal! Hope this helped :)

Oh I think your guinea pigs are the sweetest things! They're quite precious. I do have a question: Sprite has sweet little eyes and I notice the white under them. I've seen a few pigs on KZbin with that same sort of thing. I was just curious to know what it was that makes that, whether it be the under of her eyelid or what? I assume it's because she's older, but I've watched your videos for a while and feel I may as well ask for the sake of my own curious nature. ^^
@SqueakDreams9 жыл бұрын
+Frost Night | Video Productions Sprite has 'Fatty eye' where you can see some fat poking below her eyeball - some piggies get it, others don't, and it usually happens as they get older, it is nothing to worry about :)

I have two guinea pigs Oreo and Twix They are both Boys and I have had them for 6 months but they don't act like a lot of guinea pigs strangely. Oreo will allow me to pick him up so if I reached down to him he will just sit still and I can pick him up but I have never trained him to be like this he was even like this when he was a baby even though this may seem great but it means that I can't usher him towards me so I can reach him to pick him up. Twix on the other hand runs away from you if you just tap him and he just runs to the farthest place away from me and just sits there till he hears the latch close so I can't usher him either one time this got so bad when I just opened the latch he ran to the other side of the cage climbed into the pellet holder (I don't have a bowl by the way there's a little holder on the side of the cage) and he got stuck. I'm pretty sure this isn't normal guinea pig behaviour but it would really help if you answered how I can stop them from doing this!!!
@pinkiepotter1199 жыл бұрын
:o Same!!! My guinea pig is name is oreo 2! Oreo and mr. munchie, oreo is more of the playful one and he will let me pick him up. Mr.munchie will be afraid even if I touch the cage and runs away, still learning though :)

And 1 more question, how often do you wash the fleece? And what do you you wash it with? Normal laundry soap? And do you wash the Hidey Huts, Cozy chairs, etc.
@SqueakDreams10 жыл бұрын
Once a week at most but it depends how much they pee on it - litter trays help a lot! :) And yes normal detergent but no fabric softener it will stop the fleece wicking. Yes all the cosy items are washable :)

I've found that open spaces are the worst for catching my pigs, because they are so fast and slippery (we nicknamed one of them Soap because of how difficult she is to catch). When they're in a house or cluttered area it's much easier to corner them and snap them up quickly, as opposed to chasing them around the cage for ages.

How often should you pick up your guinea pig? like once a day...or twice xD And if you go to pick up your piggy but they are getting very stressed should you just leave them,give them lettuce or wait a bit?
@Crazypanda123218 жыл бұрын
Azrai Jefferson Brooman I'd aim for once a day if you can. When you get them out, sit with them on your lap and give them something yummy. They'll associate that with lap time and be calmer in future. If they're getting stressed, just give them cool off time, maybe about 10 minutes, and try again. Also, don't only get them out for nail cuts. They start to fear coming out because they're used to hating spending time with you. I know I'm not her, but this is an old video so I doubt she'd reply.

How do you litter train the piggies? Or do they just learn to do so if you put a litter tray.
@SqueakDreams10 жыл бұрын
They kind of learn themselves but never fully! :P
@CDN_Bookmouse10 жыл бұрын
I would suggest looking for a spot that they usually use as a toilet (mine have always used a corner). Once you see that, just slip the litter tray there. Put some of their normal bedding in there at first and they should keep using the corner. I try to put the bedding high around it so it's level with the entrance of the tray so they don't have to jump into it--I try to change the corner as little as possible when I'm introducing the tray. Then as they keep using it I can switch it to carefresh or the more absorbent stuff I like to put in there. Now my pig looks for her litter pan even when she's out of her cage. So she pretty much potty-trained herself. Hope that helps :)

Ik this was 5 years ago but if you feel bad about going to school while they're at home, as long as they have another piggie in the cage with them, plenty of hay and water and hideys and are safe then its no problem whatsoever.

Even the most fearless and socialized g.p.apparently will become skittish and evasive if it senses the hand it knows so well is about to pick him up. I'm wondering, therefore, if the best approach is to come from above and without warning. Done properly, its easy to transport a piggy from the floor to your elbow or shoulder before he's even had a chance to "process" the transaction. I'm not sure whether that method should be recommended. It must be done quickly, efficiently (no hand under the tummy), and skillfully (no hesitation or tentative grasping). But even if it's safe, it feels a bit like "cheating," or depriving the guinea pig of the world it is learning to know. My pig's reactions ofter make me wonder if, bored with his daily cage routine, he actually "enjoys" an occasional "cat and mouse game." He gets to test his independence while activating his prey instincts and exercising all his muscles.

When I got my guinea big he was already grown. And I’ve had him for 6 months. I’ve only held him a couple times BC every time I got to pick him up he tried to bite me, or run way.

I have the same problem with my guinea pig now. She's about 4 months old I think. She used to be okay with picking me up, but she'd sort of just freeze and now that she's comfortable and more confident she decides it's time to rebel. She lets me pet her when I'm sitting on the floor with her though. She's feisty!

If I open the door to the cage and stretch my arms out with my palms up flat and together to form a bridge to my lap, Rosemary will climb on and across without my having to fetch her from the cage. Harley Quinn is still a little pooper who only seems interested in coming out of the cage when she sees Rosemary out and about. One of my Pomeranians, Amber, and Rosemary seem to be the best of friends. Amber is usually a very dormant, timid dog but she gets super excited when I bring Rosemary out and they start grooming each other. Then when I put her back in the cage, Amber starts whining like a little baby. I can't believe I spent so much of my life not having my own pets. Lovely little critters.

One of my piggies is almost ALWAYS in her hidey. The second I approach at all she will run back in if she isn't in there already. She is finally coming out to eat, but before she wouldn't even eat in front of me. But now the only time I ever see her out of her hiding place is when she eats. A lot of the time she won't move at all when I try to pick her up though. I feel bad but I think she likes lap time, and i have to at least take her out to clean her cage 1 a week and cut her nails and brush her fur.

It could be a variety of things. Guinea pigs don't normally bite people so it could be something that might be hurting her. If at all possible, I would consider taking your guinea pig to the vet to make sure she is ok. Maybe she is having stomach pains or some other type of pain. It could also be sudden movements. If your piggy doesn't like sudden movements, she could just be biting you because she thinks your going to hurt her and she gets scared. All in all I would say check her out at the vet and make sure you have lots of lap and floor time. It is essential for bonding with your guinea pig :)

IAmHeaven- My femail does that as well, no need to worry he's just wanting something to chew on. Some advice (give him some chews while he's on your lap or vege)
