Nicely explained video. I’m assuming you can double pin the crank by driving it completely through?

Why didn’t they just key the crank from the factory?
@StickShiftSyndicate9 ай бұрын
Factory supercharged cars come from the factory keyed. If the car is not supercharged from the factory it is not keyed from the factory. So- if you do a supercharger upgrade it’s necessary to key them so the balancer will not spin and damage the crankshaft!

To me it would make sense to just key it regardless of the application

@@frankpaul3204 Factories used to key them regardless. But it was costing them money so they stopped
@frankpaul32049 ай бұрын
@@StickShiftSyndicate I don’t see how that would be a significant cost.

Maybe GM should have put a keyway in the crank! Through experience crankshaft harmonics will shake balancers loose on any high rpm engine,, that means 6000 and over regularly The SBC as well as LS if built, balanced and assembled correctly are pretty good, but a lot are not built, balanced and assembled correctly! And they shake things loose and break things. This applied to all engines. Some balancers tend to be too 'hard' and do not damp enough harmonics which in turn breaks cranks, cams, shakes balancers and flywheels off. And accesory mounts. Using good flywheel bolts though is a good idea, or factory ones and loctite. And only use them once as they will stretch and come loose. You really should never need the fancy crank bolts that are used. Factory one loctited should be all that is required
