I've been practicing the long pass for weeks, without much success. Watched this video thinking it wouldn't really help, but 2:28 (striking location) and 2:53 (chopping down for backspin) really helped break this down. Went back to practice next day with these things in mind and lo and behold, a nice long pass. Turns out I've been trying to do long passes with a shooting technique.

@@colemerchant8926 I am getting so much better at pinging the ball because I’m practicing with my dad, but what he means by chopping, while what it means to me is when you get ready to shot, he told u to hit the ball and the middle of the ball than chop down. So it took me probably around 10 shots to understand how to do it, so as he said, when u make contact with the ball and your shooting it in the middle you chop it down so as u shot in the middle and you make contact you lower your foot and shoot from underneath to create backspin just as he said. Hope u understand.

Excellent tutorial again Michael! I like how you mentioned that the ball should have back spin. This is something that I see many players struggle with, trying to differentiate between a long ball flight path vs. a shooting technique.

I need to improve technique so I can hit a longer ping

Just go out and set up a goal or some kind of target the maximum distance you think you can reach and get at least 2/5 on target. Work on that distance every time you practice your long passing until it improves and then just by doing that you will have increased your technique and leg strength and be able to hit longer passes. In my opinion if you pick a distance that’s really difficult to reach then you wind up focusing too much on trying to hit it hard and you can’t improve as fast. Source: this is how I increased my goal kick from less than half pitch to a good 10-15 meters over it depending on the pitch.

I might be wrong here, but to practice heading a helpful tip is to just have people who know how to cross, (for me my dad) and just work on aiming the ball to corners on an open net. This helps you to learn how to read a ball and hopefully hit it correctly. Other things like volleys, u can do against that way, or you can practice against a wall like the person above me said
