Happy New Years! Thank you for your advice. After watching this video, I decided placing one sub in the front left hand side (1 foot away from the corner) and I placed the second sub in the rear right hand side (1 foot away from the corner). I’m getting even low frequency throughout the room. I love this setup because the sub is not distracted while watching movies. Even low frequency is traveling through the room. I invited my brother to come over and watch Greenland movie..... he couldn’t pinpoint the subs locations.

Peter can you make a video on the ultimate Sonos set up which would be 2 play fives as rear surrounds and two sonos subs..Whether it’s worth the money or not and what type of performance you get by having that set up. There’s only one video on KZbin with that set up right now and he doesn’t really go into depth whatsoever but he did say it was his preferred set up, I know you already have all of these pieces so it would be really cool to see how they work in tandem together before I go out and spend an additional $1500

I have made a request to sonos to have adjustability for the sub gen 3 from 40-110Hz for us audiophiles to find best placement and crossover for our rooms. The diagonal setup gave me 55-65hz peaks which would be great at 40-55hz crossover. Now up front to each side of the arc gave me the better response with trueplay and is a more even frequency response where I would go for a 60-80hz crossover but leaning more to the 60hz setting to not be able to locate the subs.

@Peter Pee Happy New Year Peter - I'm happy to see that you look so healthy and fully recovered from your cold! I REALLY appreciate your videos - especially THIS one : ) as I'm getting a second Gen 3 Sub and placing it in a room very similar in volume and dimensions to yours. Due to restraints, unfortunately I have to place my TV only 2 feet from a corner along the LONG wall. My listening position is at 11 feet directly across from the TV on a couch right up against the opposite wall which does not allow for the use of surrounds because I can't distance them properly behind the couch. Due also to restraints, the subs can't be placed diagonally. I'm going to follow your suggestion for placing the subs on either side of the Arc which rests on a purpose built unit immediately below the TV (GREAT sound BTW) BUT the subs will only be 5 feet apart right up against the unit which has 3 shelves that are supported by wood blocks (so there are spaces between the blocks that would allow sound to go through) Do you think that if I place one sub with the slot FACING FORWARD and the second sub on the other side of the TV with the slot FACING SIDEWAYS (ie 90º to each other) that that will be effective in not having them cancel each other out? (BTW, I'm surprised that SONOS allow their SUBs to crossover at such high frequencies - so that if they are not CLOSE to the ARC, one might "hear" them as separate sound sources - what do you think gives? ) Cheers and Happy New Year with all the success you deserve, Peter!
@PeterPee4 жыл бұрын
The cross-over point was probably determined as such because the Arcs aren't capable to producing a lot of quality bass so they would want to offload more of the bass duties to the subs. In your setup, I am going to suggest that you try our your suggestion of 90 degrees firing on either side of the Arc. And I think the sub on the 2 feet distance corner will have to be fixed. You then move the other sub + and - 1 feet left/right and front back to test which gives you the best output. It should work within that constraints.

Excellent video, @Peter Pee ! Now, what about a scenario with two front placed subs, but one with the acoustic slot facing the MLP and the other with the side of the sub towards the MLP? I have a door close to the ideal spot for sub2, and the usable area between said door and my media cabinet would only allow for a 90 degrees turned sub. Would there potentially be wave cancellation?
@PeterPee4 жыл бұрын
I just replied another comment on that. My suggestion to you will be to fix the position of one of the sub. And for the other, move it 1 feet + - to the left/right/front/rear to see which gives you the best output. The cancellation can be avoided simply by slight movements if the room/corner is tight.

I wish I could post a picture of my setup but the basement layout for seating isn't ideal because there a gas stove is in the middle of the room along side the walls so I actually have my TV with the sonos arc and sub in the corner face diagonally across my room. The room is 24'x15'. The sub is placed to the right of the TV setup and not tucked right in the corner but do you think it would be beneficial to place another one to the left of the TV? It would be 2 subs firing into the same corner. Thanks

Peter, thanks for this video. I was looking forward to it because I currently have two Subs, one for the TV/Arc in the living room and the other for the TV/Beam in the bedroom. I have already moved the TV/Beam to the TV/Arc and "guessed" at the placement of the two Sub's. This video confirmed that I made a correct guess; thank you. My living room is kind of large and the Sub's are placed 5 feet from center of the Arc to the center of each Sub. So far, I am liking this arrangement. I do not have an Apple product that supports TruePlay but I do have a Sonos Move. This is supposed to have something they call Automatic TruePlay and the Sonos manual seem to suggest that if I add the Move to the TV/Arc device it might perform the TruePlay function? Since I know what my paired Sub configuration will be I will move the Move from the bedroom to the living room and see if I can tell a difference. Thanks again for the information you provide; especially the graphs. It helps me a lot.

I don't think the Sonos Move is going to help with he Sonos Arc. May you point out where the manual suggests that will help?
@areliablesource28484 жыл бұрын
@@PeterPee I found a User Manual for the Move on the Sonos website. There is a little paragraph that is the following: Automatic Trueplay™ You can put Sonos Move just about anywhere. Auto Trueplay tuning optimizes the sound for wherever you are and whatever you’re listening to. Your speaker’s microphone is used to detect the environment so auto Trueplay can make periodic tuning adjustments to deliver the best sound. If you don’t want the microphone on all the time, be sure to turn it on whenever you move the speaker. Your Sonos Move starts retuning when you pick it up, and continues to adjust the sound for a few minutes after you place it in a new location. Note:Auto Trueplay is disabled while you’re using Bluetooth. The information that caught my attention was "Your speaker’s microphone is used to detect the environment so auto Trueplay can make periodic tuning adjustments to deliver the best sound". There is a lot of info in that one sentence and even more information that is Implied. I am wondering/hoping that by adding the Move to the group that has the Arc/Paired Sub's that any TruePlay adjustments made by the TruePlay on the Move would include the sound from the Arc/Paired Sub's. I am also wondering/hoping that after the environment is "TruePlayed" that I can turn off the microphone on the Move that the settings would be retained on the Arc/Paired Sub's. I suppose that if it is really important I could/would/should contact Sonos support for their input but hey, what the heck, COVID-19 has provided ample time to play around and see what happens. Again, thanks for you work on providing this kind of information.

@@PeterPee I have done some additional reading in the Sonos Sub User Guide and came across the section for the Sub Settings. The one bullet that I am not clear about is the one labeled Phase Control. Phase Control: Choose 0° or 180° to set the phase control for your Sonos Sub or third-party subwoofer. This can help integrate your subwoofer with other speakers in the room. What the manual does really explain is "why" a person would select one option over the other. In other words; under what conditions would I select "180 degrees" instead of "0 degrees". Could you provide some insight as the which Phase Control option to select. Again, thanks for your insight into the Sonos equipment.

What an amazing guy you are! Here’s a question… I have a large living area and within it there is a definitive viewing area (arc, P1s & sub g2). As it is currently the L rear if much further away than the R rear. If I was to add a 2nd sub it would be in this corner as it opposes diagonally where the 1st sub is (front corner to right of TV). I was thinking to bring the L rear closer but could I then leave the 2nd sub in that original much further away corner location? It would then be pushing the bass in from outside the set viewing area and from further away than the speaker or would they be both better in the same location? I hope that makes sense, your advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
@PeterPee2 жыл бұрын
Technically, if you take a page from a concert setup in open air, subs tend to be clustered together so that the bass doesn't cancel each other out. But because we are in rooms with wall boundaries, we get reflections of bass notes so having it at different distances and locations can help. You do trueplay and it will take care of the phase settings to compensate for that.

Nice Video. My question is or questions I should say are is your room a dedicated room where you run your test or is this in your living room? Does it have a door that closes the room off to other areas of the house?. I like how you do the science behind having a second sub. Many people have open concept houses with sonos in the living room area. Surely the fixtures such as seating positions tables, chairs ( maybe some have carpet vs hardwood etc), vaulted ceilings of assorted heights, will impact each individuals setup. Will the setup in a living room with many seating positions produce a different affect for the listener depending on the location they sit when watching Tv or listening to music? It seems to me there would be a premium listening position. What are your thoughts on all of this. Thanks gain. Did you do a review on the curve you get between having an arc connected to a Gen 2 sub verses a gen 3 sub? Thanks again
@PeterPee3 жыл бұрын
I did a video on an Arc with Gen 2 and Gen 3 sub before. And yes, placement definitely changes how the sound is perceived. So many variations. There is a sweet spot and you can expand the sweet spot with clever placement and even bass response. My space is actually not the living room but my work area. It was originally a theatre room but I was forced to put in working desks due to the work from home arrangement. The space is not completely closed but closed enough with very thick curtains and just one doorway.

Hey Peter Pee, some of us have not had the chance to upgrade from the Playbar to the Arc. Availability, price, and having to upgrade the TV are a few reasons. Would you do some videos with the Playbar? I.e. Playbar, ones for surrounds, and sub. Would we get benefits with dual subs even using the Playbar? Cause it seems like all my other components are still relevant and will not need to be upgraded. If dual subs benefit the Playbar, I can pick up the sub gen 3 and when the time is right, I can swap out the Playbar for the Arc. Thank you.
@PeterPee3 жыл бұрын
I do not have the playbar and the playbase anymore unfortunately. I just don't have the space for them. But if I were to try to answer your question, it'd be clear that the playbar will be able to benefit from the second sub. Technically, all the Home Theatre sound bars from sonos including the Amp can take a second sub. The benefit should be significant. From the way the bass is lifted, it is in the territory that no standalone sound bar can generate.

@fredrikforssell15794 жыл бұрын
The Arc receives input from the HDMI and the Fives will receive that same signal over wifi, if you group them. This might introduce a small microlatency, which makes mids sound somewhat tinny and introduces an odd echo in dialogue. At least this was my experience in a similar use case involving an Amp with tower speakers and a Beam (ended up attaching the TV to the Amp only and moving the Beam to another room). The microlatency is not a problem with a sub connected to an Arc, obviously, as mids are not involved. Try before you buy, if possible.

Hi my room is 12.5 x 12.5 x 8 ft. Is the room big enough for two subs?
@tumunamegabe19683 жыл бұрын
I added my second sub yesterday, my room is big enough for a second sub. When tested I realized the bass of my existing sub went down lost but one thing is u can't really tell where the bass is coming from is full fill the house but not strong. Is a problem of positioning or bass, music, tv ... set up levels. Please help
@PeterPee3 жыл бұрын
The best bass is when you can’t localised where it’s coming from so you have a good setup already. You can just increase the sub levels to compensate if you want more bass.

@@PeterPee thanks Peter for advice, also I have an issue with sound disconnection between the arc and surrounds which never happened when I used to use a single sub but since I added a second sub sometimes sound will cut. I'm using HDMI cable.

Peter ! Do new Kef sub vs gen3 sonos comparison ✌🏽
@PeterPee3 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, I was reading about the Kef sub with interest. I like KEFs and they sound accurate. If memory serves me right, they are better suited for music and less for movies. Sonos the other way round.
@TheArnoldMedia3 жыл бұрын
As i know yes, but i like Sonos when im listening music too, didn’t have a chance to try Kef new small sub but i know that You cant pair them. Anyways have a question that hopefully You gonna answer! 🙏🏽 im using beam with 2x SL’s and gen3 sub but im more music listener then a movie watcher.. how about im gonna use all speakers in front as L and R channels? i mean bring surrouds in front. cause i don’t really like when im gearing music more from behind than from the front. Did You did that before or tested?

Is it better to get Gen 2 and Gen 3 subs for the dual setup or are two Gen 3 subs better?
@PeterPee3 жыл бұрын
I wanted to find out but have not managed to get my hands on a sub gen 3. Have to wait that out.

Quick question, at what level do you keep your sub?
@PeterPee4 жыл бұрын
Most of the time I do a lot of testing and keep it neutral so it is at 0.

VERY interesting experimentation and research. Who'd thunk about the possibility of 'canceling out' positioning. Please Peter, do NOT try a third sub... I think you are very near creating a black hole.
@PeterPee4 жыл бұрын
Kevin, when Sonos allows a third sub to be added.... I *WILL* add a third sub. Hahaha... The black hole is already here. And I am staring at it whenever I look at my bank account.

Can you summarise these videos
@davidbee81784 жыл бұрын
@PeterPee As promised, I was happy to join and contribute to your Patreon Coffee Fund today . . . hope it went though OK : ) (davidMTL) Just wondering; since the crossover on the SONOS Arc to Sub is quite high, isn't relatively easy to locate the sound of any SONOS SUB (which is a no-no for proper bass integration and sound) that is not relatively near the Arc - like diagonally across the room? Your set up when you place your two subs on either side of the Arc looks extremely promising. I see you have the slots of BOTH subs, facing OUT toward your listening position. As long as the TWO Sub SLOTS are NOT facing each other or are perpendicular to each other, there will be no cancellation, correct? Thank you SO much for your very informative no B.S. videos !!! LOVE the way you divulge your answers at the outset and THEN go for the details!!
@PeterPee4 жыл бұрын
Hey David! Thank you for the contribution and I sincerely appreciate it! The crossover being hight means it is a lot more difficult to place the sub without bringing attention to itself. There is still a chance that subs will cancel each other out in unlikely situations even if the slots are not facing each other. Subs throw out low frequency waveforms that are very long and hard to control and predict. So the best is to experiment. If you feel that you are getting less outputs from two subs than from one, then you can keep one sub in a fixed position and then move the second to see if it helps. It usually takes just a foot movement to correct a cancellation.

Hi Peter can i add dual sonos with 2 sonos 5 or the dual subs can only be paired with a sonos beam or arc?
@PeterPee4 жыл бұрын
Only with beam and arc. Or playbase, playbar and amp. Not the Fives.
@James-zu1ij2 жыл бұрын
Surely you can place the subs next to each other, mimicking 1 larger sub.
@PeterPee2 жыл бұрын
I actually don’t like 2 subs close to one another. I find that the sound gets muddled up quite a bit.
