Hello, I need a little help. I have a 8notes tongue drum that was given to me by my father who found it in an old stash of items in our old house it is a bit damaged but playable. I watched your video and tried out the app. The tongue drum has the notes A, G#, F#, A#, 2 B notes and 2 C# notes. I don't know where it was manufactured, no company name or anything seems handmade. I can get it repaired but right now, I don't have the budget. Is there still any song I can play temporarily with those notes?

Hello, I have the same drum as in this video. I used the tuner and all the notes are correct except on the tuner there's a plus and minus range. CDE are right in the center but the FGAB all drop to the right (minus sign). So sound wise my notes go up and down they do not keep going up the way yours does. Hope that makes sense

@@MusicalMollyKhan Thanks Molly. Interesting point. I've been reading music since the age of 7 (59 now), play a bunch of instruments like you, and I'll be able to translate faster with letters. How would you number a Rav Vast B Kurd drum. Scale is: (B2 lowest note) F#3, G3, A3, B3, C#4, D4, E4, F#4, and A4. I am also getting Novadrum in B Celtic Minor 432 hz, which I have figured out (8 notes...D: A, C, D, E, F, G, A, C). The B Kurd has another note on it though(9 notes), due to 1 extra note. You can advise on the D Celtic Minor scale also to make sure I am on track, though, please. Thanks so much in advance. Any and all help for a newbie is appreciated. 😊
@MusicalMollyKhan3 жыл бұрын
Great question! So I believe based on that scale the the Kurd is based on a B minor scale (a mode of D major) as well. That would make B, the lowest note, number 6. Then F#=3, G=4, A=5, B=6, C#=7, D=1, E=2 etc. :D

@MusicalMollyKhan2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, if you're wanting to play songs that are numbered, you usually have to go with the relative major key to do numberings. It's relative major is Bb, so G (6.), Bb (1), C (2), D (3), F (5), G (6), Bb (.1), C (.2) With the before dot representing higher and the after dot representing lower. Does that make sense?

Hello Molly. Not sure how I missed this one. I have a question. I too have a Hluru 14 note which came with the numbers on it. The notes agree with the numbers as far as C=1 etc. with no sharps or flats. The question I have is that my notes range from low F (4) to high E (3). Does that make sense? @MusicalMollyKhan3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes, that totally makes sense. A lot of instruments that span more than one octave (1-7) will put a few higher notes and a few lower notes, since that actually gives you more harmonic options then just adding 7 lower notes or 7 higher notes 😊

Brilliant video. I received a similar drum for Christmas, but there is a D on the underside... Does that mean it's tuned to D and is the tuning method the same? Also, do you have a video on how to tune it without using magnets? Many thanks
@MusicalMollyKhan4 жыл бұрын
That probably means it is in D, yes! It's a bit complicated, but basically it just means your drum would not sound nice playing the same number tabs at the same time with a drum tuned in C. Otherwise, you can play all the number tabs and they will still sound right! As far as tuning, it's not very possible if your drum is not magnetic 😕 But, you can still do lots of different scales since your drum has so many notes. I will be posting some tutorials for that in the future!

I have a question. I have a small 6 tongue drum ( I watched one of your videos and bought it from amazon..the little purple one). My question...my tongues/notes are 1=C, 2=D, 3-E, 5=G, 6=A, i=C. (I downloaded the tuner app you suggested)...Do I just play songs without B or F??? OR am I suppose to have B and F and my drum is wrong?
@MusicalMollyKhan3 жыл бұрын
The drum you have is pentatonic, meaning it's made to be a 5 note scale. This is advantageous because you can play music to relax or meditate without encountering any dissonance or "wrong" notes! @JHCRBurton3 жыл бұрын
It’s actually supposed to be my low G (5) but when I play it it rings as a low C. I’m assuming it’s out of tune and will retune it using the tiny magnets you mentioned in another video.

@@JHCRBurton you can definitely try that! One suggestion first: sometimes the tuners pick up the wrong overtones on the tongue drums. Try putting your clothed arm across as many tongues as you can except the one you're tuning. Then you'll get a better reading 😊

Hi Molly, thanks so much for your videos (especially perfect for a newbie!). I just got a 14 note C tone tongue drum from Amazon. I followed your kind instructions & used the app to get the notes, which suggest the drum is numbered correctly (stickers came already placed - I tried with the a few times and same result came), however when I start from 1(C) and go through to 7(B) it's not sounding right. Instead of high to low being C, D, E, F, G, A, B... I'm getting: E, D, C, B, A, G, F. Does that make any sense for the drum I have?? A quick Google of the note order suggests its an E tone? Super confused! Thank you 😊
@MusicalMollyKhan3 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is really confusing! One suggestion: when you are using the tuner, use your arm or some cloth to mute the rest of the drum except the note you are trying to figure out. Sometimes the overtones can interfere and confuse the tuner! 😊
