I am down for 40plus drums to now a little over 20. NO MORE DRUMs- is what I am telling myself now....errr....today....this very minute.I only kept 4 Amazon drums....the rest of my Amazon drums, I donated them to my local boys and girls club where I teach kids meditation. Are you "using your drum" to learn play music?

I got my first tongue drum. Its a mini 8 note Sovvid brand. While this type of istrument is nice, i do highly prefer playing a handpan and the sound as well is more pleasing to me. Thank you for sharing 😁👍
@maxandchloemeditation
@maxandchloemeditation 15 күн бұрын
Hi there! Sovvid brand is another mass produced drum. Usually those tongue drum(s) are single tone/note tongue drums. Most will provide solid tone notes but won't have the harmonics/overtones of artisan tongue drums. Makers like Rav, Art Quint, Pulsar etc made their drums with harmonics/overtones - up to 8 notes per tongue- hence the thick syrupy sound(s). Handpan has that. Thats why handpan sounds are very pleasing. have a great day!

Hello. and good morning.Artisan drums and these mass produced drums - they are "similar". Artisan drums are individually handmade by these expert makers. Hence, the price and quality- which are justified. I always stressed - if you want one-- at the price you can afford(this case, mass produced drums)- to buy only from Amazon sellers- with hassle free returns if these are not up to your "standard".

HI! I like your videos, love your relaxed energy and peaceful sounds. Miss seeing your face though... I am trying to buy a tongue drum for my toddler granddaughter that I hope she loves and gets hooked on but I have zero musical knowledge. And my question is, is there a drum that would be good for both, improvisation as well as to play songs and tunes? And if that is not possible and I have to choose between one or the other which do you think would be best. I would be very grateful for your advice 🙏

I got my daughter her first tongue drum when she was 2. She would "play" it everyday....Her first drum was an 8 notes 10" C Diatonic. To her, it wasn't how well she plays it.......she just love the sounds from it. Tongue drum sounds are soothing. And to me , has "reaching" properties. I used to play it to put her too sleep and still does it now-quite often. You cannot go wrong with these drums, you cannot play a wrong note with these drums. And thats the beauty of these. For 'free play" or improvisation play- it doesn't matter which drum you get, you will be focussing on the sound healing properties(relaxation etc) But to play along with other nstruments or to play "songs", I suggest getting at least a 12 notes and up. 14-15 notes opens up your possibilities as it will cover 2 octaves. Massed produce drums(Amazon etc) are usually in the key of C. Better drums(more expensive) , usually comes in selective scales(eg: C Golden gate, B Celtic- which limits you to what you can play along to/with). Wishing you and your grand daughter a wonderful day!

@@maxandchloemeditation Thank you so much, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain. If I understood you right, a 12 notes and up tongue drum would also be good and sound good for a toddler to enjoy free playing, It doesn't necessarily need to be an eight note one... right?

I’m looking at getting my first tongue drum hoping it will help with depression. I don’t know if pentatonic or hexatonic would work best. I haven’t learned the tonal differences. I find brighter tones the guitar too irritating. I’m not looking to play “music,” rather something probably akin to meditation. I’m hoping you can offer advice on a decent beginners drum.

Hi Joyce. I totally understand your situation. Personally, I use these drums for personal meditation as well.I am assuming that you want deep, soothing, ethereal sounds...... Go with bigger drums....smaller drums, no matter how many tongues it has...will give you small tinny sounds. larger drums will have lower notes and longer sustain. Do you have a budget? We can start from that. Awaiting your reply. Have a blessed day!

most amazon tongue drums are "NOT" made with 100% steel/metal. Try the magnet trick---does the magnet stick to it? If not....it's a mix metal.....most likely copper etc.Having long nails "can" be difficult to "play" these drums---my wife- on and off- has long nails......so yes- it's difficult to play. Anyway.....Painted Amazon drums are very difficult- almost impossible to chip the paint off. So I wouldn't worry so much. Use whatever makes ya happy....mallets are fine.Just enjoy the drum. Have a blessed day!

Hi, I bought a cheap drum some months ago. My children woundt destroy it fast and I hoped we all will habe fun with it. First I played it with mallets, but than my jungest son said, that my sound is to loud. In the moment I'm playing it with these plastikbubbels in the fingers. But tomorrow I will try your suggestions. One question is now in my mind. You placed the drums on a stool. Does the drum sound better, then placingit on your legs? Thank you for the video.
@maxandchloemeditation
@maxandchloemeditation Жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes, placing the drum on a stand will give you better resonance. Will be louder and clearer as well. As the stand allows the drum/tongues to vibrate more effectively. Placing the drum btwn your legs are fine. It does mute the sounds a bit,but some prefer the more rounding sounds. Oh, how did your son destroy the drum-these drums are built like tanks unless it was dropped on the tongues many many times.

@@maxandchloemeditation oh, our drum ist still alive. But my son managed it, that the huge tongue was bend a short peace inside. He let the drum fall down from the sofa and it landed on something hard. I could fix it, so it's still OK for us to use. I don't know how to explain it in english. IT is long ago since I learned it in school.

Which tongue drum do you suggest for retuning with magnets?
@maxandchloemeditation
@maxandchloemeditation 8 ай бұрын
There are not that many tongue drum out there that "TUNABLE". Beat Root and Hapi Slim are a few that are "affordable" I personally own 2 Hapi Tunable. Haven't played the Beat Root so I can't comment on that. All tunable drums are tunable to a degree. As to your question: All metal tongue drums can be tune WITH MAGNETS ONLY IF you can get your hand in there(under/inside the drum). I do not suggest opening a RAV Vast to tune them. As mentioned in the video- Most Amazon drums are NOT metal(eg mostly copper etc). Only was to test, is by using a magnet(as my video). So to which drum(s) can be tune with magnets----Hard to answer. I did it with a few of fine----yes....tunable to a degree. Don't expect too much.........Some you can only tune....1-2 semitones. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3W7lJ6ij66XnqM

goooood morrrningggg!The smaller drums are all from/on Amazon. Make sure- shall stressed- only buy from Amazon's seller(that has a prime next to their name). Just type in tongue drum on your search. The prices varies- size, notes etc. Buying from an Amazon seller allows you the NO hassle return(s) if the drums arrived "out of tune" or damaged. The bigger drum(Art Quint in the video)- can be found on their Facebook's page.On the bigger drums(art quint, Rav,etc) the price are a bit expensive(under $1k with shipping etc).Those drums- they don't sell on Amazon.
