Word! So here we look at how to incorporate or place your multi-effects pedal like a Headrush MX5 in with the rest of your rig. In this example we are using the multieffects pedal as an amp sim and modulation unit, but we have wah, pitch, overdrive and delay to go with it. These same principals apply to any rig or pedal board, but this shows you how to do it with the Headrush MX5.

Anyone had a need to use a noise suppression pedal with the mx5? I find the included noise algorithm is not very good compared to a Boss NS-2, for example. Anyone tried to do this and if so, how did you connect it to the mx5? Great content!

Probably can do better than that ... the wife just authorized the purchase of a new switcher like the Boss MS5. So I might be able to show how to control everything thru MIDI as well. But in the meantime I can certainly do another tutorial using my settings how I make it all work 😊

This is cool. However, what do you think is the best approach to take to get the nicest tone with the mx5 alone? As far as going into an amp with an fx loop is concerned.

Sir can you please make a video on how to add analog pedals with multi effect that doesn't have send/return effect loop... I want to add pedals to my boss me80 but my effect doesn't have that facility... It will be of great help.. Thank U Sir

I have looked into this as well: I have a Boss Katana 50 which is basically the same as the ME-80. These seem to be intended to be used as a single, complete solution for the most part. If you want to add the ME-80 with other pedals, you have to treat it as only a specific section of the signal chain. You could use it for drive, mod and amp emulator and add delay and reverb pedals after it for examples. Without an effects loop, you do not have a point where you can interrupt the signal to add an effect.

Thank you so much, very helpful video. I would like to connect a Talkbox pedal, should i connect the SEND of the multieffects to the input of the talkbox and the return to the output of the talkbox? should it works, i wouldnt like to use the input and ouptut of the multieffects for that matter, what do you think?

Thank you very much for this video! I just wonder if you want to have a boost pedal for either you clean tones or your overdrive, where in the chain you recommend insert that pedal, near the overdrive one(green pedal), use one within the multieffect pedal, or? Or maybe use the Amp(modulation) Solo switch (I got one in mine)? 10x
@priorwitness
@priorwitness 7 ай бұрын
Thanks! Boost pedals can be placed in a lot of different places. It depends on how you want the boost used. If you want to drive your amp and give it a little bit more dirt then you place it somewhere in the chain BEFORE your amp. If you just want the boost to give you a little bit of extra DB like during a solo to stand out a bit more than it goes towards the end of your chain; AFTER the amp. Boost pedals usually come with their own characteristics and different flavors. Just depends on what you like as well. When I'm playing with my real amp, I, too, have a boost built into the amp, and it acts as a DB boost. I don't use it, though, simply because I have a Dual Rectifier and that pedal it comes with is HUGE lol. So for me, I tend to use the boosts built into the multi-effects unit and just move the boost in the multi-effects unit where I want it based on the application I need. Or, like right now, I don't have a multi-effects unit with a built in boost in it, and so my boost is in the form of a Tube Screamer, TS9, running before my amp to add more character, saturation, and boosting those mid frequencies when soloing. I also just bought a Morely Wah with a built in boost when the Wah is active which is PERFECT for what I do.

Do you think that an MX5 would make a good all-in-one pedal, or a good "first pedal" for someone to start with and build off from?
@priorwitness
@priorwitness 9 ай бұрын
That's a great question that I don't think is black and white. There is certainly quality to be had there that you can build around. I wouldn't scoff at anyone who wanted to build around the Headrush MX5. It's ability to take MIDI works very well, and if you're willing to put in the time to learn MIDI I think the Headrush can be an excellent unit to have for anyone at any skill level when paired with a unit that can switch external devices via MIDI. However, the unit isn't for everyone, and for me, there were a few things that made me sell mine. This might have been simple user error on my part or simply the way I hit my switches with my feet, but not too many have this issue. So take that criticism of the switches with a grain of salt. 1) The switches were not responsive for me. 2) My expression pedal eventually stopped utilizing its full range, and it cannot be re-calibrated. This made the expression pedal on mine an extra wart just taking up space. This is a random issue that effects fewer than most, but mine wasn't so lucky. 3) There is some latency with the pedal (5ms I believe). I'm used to using analog gear and it became incredibly frustrating to use trying to switch back and forth between real gear and the MX5. HOWEVER, if you're used to playing with plugins or modelers in general, this won't be an issue for you.

I wanna know how you supply the power. What power supply you use to power both mx5 and analog pedals.
@priorwitness
@priorwitness Жыл бұрын
I hate to admit it, but its all running off of an APC power strip and some creative cable management using lots of twisty ties to hold all of those power cables from their respective AC Power Supplies from getting out of hand. I'd gladly run a regular power supply, but I couldn't find one that the Headrush would run off of.

Where would you place modulation stomp boxes. Before the MX5 after the drives, or in the loop? I want to incorporate chorus, phase, and tremolo stomp boxes.
@priorwitness
@priorwitness 11 ай бұрын
All of your modulation should come after your drive pedals and tremolo should be the very last modulation pedal before you incorporate time based effects such as reverb and delay. Because of this I would start with placing those pedals in a chain within the FX Loop. Then have the FX Loop block somewhere after any amps but before any delays and reverb.

Yeah you can't just slap 3M tape across the pedal. I had to line up squares of 3M tape on the board with the rubber feet of the pedal. It wasn't easy lol

Sure! I'm going off memory here as my rig has changed a bit since but I probably had the Output of my MX5 going into the Input of my delay. The output of the Delay went into the FX Return of my amp.

so you never use any cabinets or IR in the MX5 chain ? thanks for your excellents videos
@priorwitness

Thanks! For me it's not something I need for my chain. With that said I think the built in Cabs and IRs sound pretty good, honestly. For me, I've already invested money into the Two notes Wall of Sound ecosystem with the Torpedo Captor running from my amplifier and then for software I have a lot of those cabinets at my disposal plus IRs I've purchased third party that I already enjoy. Plus, everytime I've played at any of the local venues in my area they still love to go old school with placing a mic on your cab.

@priorwitness

An 005 preamp? Forgive me I'm not familiar with that. I hope this helps - I own a Revv G3 Distortion/Preamp pedal and the noise from that pedal was just like the Distortion from my amp itself which was easily eliminated with a noise gate placed immediately after the FX Loop block.

So this video your using basic 4 cable method ....so your preamp is using the amp not using multi effects preamp right???
@priorwitness
@priorwitness Жыл бұрын
Correct. If I understand your question correctly I am using 4 cable method to place certain effects in front of my amplifier, before the preamp section, and then certain effects after the preamp section of my real amplifier. When I switch to an amp within the MX5 that amp takes over the preamp section of my real amplifier and turns my real amplifier into nothing more than a glorified power amp.

@@priorwitness nice thanks gotcha....got another question can we use multi effects and stomp box combine pedal effects using together by using 4 cabel method??? ...Cause i like my overdrive sound DOD 250 preamp stomp box pedal and my multi effects for using delay , reverb, wah and etc.
@priorwitness
@priorwitness Жыл бұрын
@Razindr { Z¥π } of course! That was the point of this video honestly 😊. I too have multiple pedals and I place them in front of the MX5. For delays and reverbs you want those connected to the output of the MX5. The last pedal's output in that chain should route to the FX Return of your amplifier. Any stomp box can be connected to the FX Loop of the MX5 and placed anywhere in the chain. The only downside is that since there is only one FX Loop on the MX5 you have to make a choice between using additional pedals in the FX Loop or using the amp. I have it combined on my setup. My RevG3 is part of the FX Loop and pushes one of the channels on my amp.

Wouldn't it have been a lot cleaner and easier to just describe this with a simple diagram and leave out that mess on your floor? Following the jumps between the floor and the views of the amp where not very user friendly. Just sayin'.
@priorwitness
@priorwitness 5 ай бұрын
I appreciate the feedback but no. music gear from my perspective isn't supposed to be clean. Music is hard. music is dirty. you've got to dig into it. most guys boards I know are not pristine and well put together. a lot of times we are scrounging just to put stuff together. so that's what this is. you don't have the budget or time to invest in a perfect board but you care about how it sounds. that's what I'm going for here. am I little disorganized? maybe. but I also know how signal flow works and drawing diagrams would not get the job done as opposed to showing what an actual board looks like

@@priorwitness- that's my point - if your intended viewers are hard core music enthusiasts, why are you dumbing it down with descriptions of "food groups" and all of the different types of well known pedals? Do you really think the people you are targeting need that?
