Solid video. I'm wondering where to keep my luggage as I plan to stay in Japan for at least 7 days. Like you suggested I'll take the first day to rest and then try to climb the following day. Do I need to reserve a room on the mountain ahead of time if climbing during the week?

Yes, if you are climbing without a tour you need to reserve the room ahead of time. If you go in the middle of the week you might find a bed since there are less people, but that’s a risk you don’t want to take. Also for luggage that you are not taking with you to the climb, there are train stations (or places near them) that have locker rooms you can rent for a couple of coins. The big lockers can fit a small carryon luggage as well as a few other items.

When I went in August it was just rainy nonstop, but still got a great sunrise. I guess the cold weather starts coming in quick.
