Hi Jon, Great Super detailed intel.! I am the Mancave guy , that was with you in December 2022. What a Great trip Solo with Todd, He is Amazing!. From Restaurants and his command of English is perfect and knows where to go always for super cool local lunch spots, with charming hosts. ! We did a 2 day trip Saigon to Camp Beach East Coast Lagi Beach Hotel. Driving on Beach! Highly recommend, dirt, sand, cruising through rubber plantations, and Super Todd on GPS on 2 different tracks in and out!! Great Intro Dirt Bike Ride before you commit for the next ride!! Great meeting you all at office, and READY for the next adventure. So Professional, from coming in 2 days earlier, getting geared up to the end!! Cheers

very very true information.. i'm usually the guy who organizes trips and can relate to ALL of it. I'll keep this video in mind to share for future rides.

Half the reason I made it was to share to people that "want to ride with me". :)

Holy Moly! You make it all sound ridiculously regimented and stressful. This is why I travel solo. I sort out my day however I want. I have just come back from a ride from Saigon to Hanoi via the remoter roads (Trường Sơn Đông and HCM Rd). I would cover up to 300km in a day on an XR150 and no need for a super early start or finish in the dark. I find that in these poorer and more remote areas that stopping at a restaurant for lunch is not really worth it as the food isn't great and the places are grotty. My solution is to buy a banh mi or similar for breakfast in the morning if the hotel does not provide breakfast and then stop at one of the basic shops along the way and buy fruit, a cake, nuts etc and a drink for a quick snack for lunch. In the richer, more populated areas the restaurants are better and convenience stores exist but out in the mountains they don't.

haha. Well by yourself you cover alot more ground. Or with one good friend is nice too. The limiting factor of the day is not time, just getting tired! But when you get into 4+ people, group dynamics becomes a real thing.

@@Tigitmotorbikes Y bigger groups are always harder work I should imagine - herding cats! Yes my rear end was the limiting factor for me 🤣 although I was actually pretty impressed with how comfortable the XR150 is for hours of riding. Much better than I expected.

This is why I hate telling my biking friends my travel plans in case any of them start inviting themselves along.

It is a real world problem that many are not aware of. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with a 70 year old motorbike veteran who had a no nonsense very aggressive attitude toward poor preparation and wasting time. I learnt alot from him and applied many of his lessons to my driving, and the company as well.

How much ground would you typically cover on a regular (not excessively tiring) motorbiking day? Planning to rent a bike off you lot and Khe Sanh to Phong Nha, and onwards are looking like quite long days... Any suggestions?

That section of road is long days. But good days. 150-220km is the average range for a tourist. Some sections (of which the HCM road is one), it is best to commit to longer days for a nice hotel.
