Last october i put 5 peach pit seeds in the fridge on a wet paper towel etc. Come jan, 1 seed was rooting. A month later, 3 more were. 1 didnt sprout. 1 died after a month. The remaining 3 are big and strong. 32" last measurement. 2 are straight stemmed and 1 has 2 branches growing out. This fall i will plant them in the ground.

Thank you. I like the idea of trees close together for home gardeners like me. Florida, year # 2 and peach tree did get 2 peaches in April but I pulled them off and will fertilize the tree and hope to get a bunch of blooms. I did prune out one vertical branch in the middle for a vase shape. Baby steps if I need to prune more. ha. Tree is 10 feet high for season 2 and I am thrilled. I will do the perforated pipe that you demonstrated and not disturb roots too much. I Made peach tea out of those leaves. Fun.

This video was very much helpful! Thank you so much! It’s been a week since we’ve planted our tree and I’m starting to see pill bugs in the soil. Are these any harm for the tree? And if yes, how can I get rid of them?
@colonyhillshomestead4683

For the most part these bugs are natures composters. They eat dead plant material and in turn put those nutrients back in the soil. I wouldn’t see it as an issue.

Got a bit of a crazy idea. Trying to make a self watering orchard. I got a spot with three small springs on it. I was going to cover them with a couple feet of dirt. If you were doing this how deep would you think that the water line should be below the top of the dirt? 3-4 feet?
@colonyhillshomestead4683

3 feet should water fine without getting topsoil muddy and allow for excess to go back into the underground water table of course shut it down in winter or you’ll build a nice ravine 🤣

I’ve got a question. I planted a couple of Florida peach trees, several years ago. Two different varieties. They both bloom every year and produce Peaches each year. One has apparently died, but it has produced a “sucker” growth below ground level and below the graft! My question is should I cut the dead portion of the tree (about 100% of the tree) and encourage this sucker to grow? What kind of peach tree will it be? Or get rid of the old tree (sucker and all) and grow a new tree in stead?

The bottom roots were absolutely hard & flat like a disc. I couldn't do much of anything with them, but as I understand it, they don't really go deeper much...they spread; is that correct? Or do I need to dig it back up & correct it somehow?

I would think that tube in the ground is just making a easier way for the peach tree borer to get right to the roots easy , im not tryin that.

Thanks for the advice. I treat with neem oil to prevent borers cedar chips for mulch seems to keep them away also. I pull the watering tubes when tree is established!

Keep area around base free of old leaves, don’t overwater, prune to increase air flow and treat with fungicide 3 to 4 times. Thanks

Ive planted a dozen peach trees only to loose them to deer, and leaf Curl , ive sprayed them fenced them sprayed again and again. But still. Not one peach have i picked. Apples, cherries , plums . I grow well . But peaches ? No way will they grow , and if they do they always die. Pacific northwest in Oregon hates my peaches.

Peaches seem to be a southern thing. Apples I have problems with. All about the right amount of chill hours.

@@colonyhillshomestead4683 I planted the last one in memory of my pet bunny that passed away this year . I kinda want to plant another peach tree but if it dies again I will be heartbroken . I have clay soil . Maybe I should try another type of tree.

Just about anybody who knows how to plant a tree can plant a peach tree. The trick is getting it to produce peaches. I asked a worker at a tree nursery in Ohio if I planted a peach tree if I could expect to get peaches in 10 years he told me I'd probably have to wait 15 years.

By cutting the top off that Young WEAK tree in that time of the year instead of the winter you just cut it wide open for bugs and diseases to INSTANTLY kill that tree. Smh. All that planning work to RUIN it in seconds
