That’s going to be gorgeous! Because of you, every time I plant anything I chant, “Plant it high, it won’t die; plant it low, it won’t grow!” 😆 New t-shirt slogan? 🤔

I always thought the rule was to fertilize all pots and flowers every 1-2 weeks during growing season. This is great information! I’ll save enough to but more plants! Lol. Thanks, Jim. 💕💕💕

I love the autumn bonfire. I have some autumn twist I'm putting on the foundation of my house. I'm going to have to give container planting an azalea a try as well. I live in zone 7a. Would I have to bring my 1 gal azalea in during the winter months of I planted it in a 3 gal pot? As always Jim thank you for all your advice.

Older video but Im researching how to create a garden oasis on my patio and which plants, shrubs and trees work best. Ive worked for years getting the inside of my home the way I wanted it and now, its times to move on to the outside. Im going to use some of your suggestions to get some greenery on the patio but my question is, are these plants going to be okay outside in pots? Because I certainly wont be able to bring them inside. Also, do we just treat them like any other shrub, perennial, or tree that is planted outside? I know watering in the summer is very important but Im more worried anout winter months. Im in same zone as you, well almost 😊 Do you habe a bideo for Container planting for small trees to go on patio? Thanks for the help ❤

Jim, do you need to put rocks in the bottom of the pot to help with drainage?
@JimPutnam4 жыл бұрын
Definitely not. I wish I had talked about now that you ask. The bottom of the soil is always to wet. Gravel actually raises the wet area up into the root zone. This is one of those myths that can actually damage your plants. I may talk about on Sunday. Thanks for asking.

One thing I do put in the bottom of the pot over the drainage hole to keep the dirt from draining out when watering is a coffee filter.

Hi Jim! Can you let me know if I can use Plant Tone to refresh regular potting soil from last year that I want to reuse for annuals or perennials? Thanks for all of your help!
@JimPutnam4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that would work. A lot of times o take half old soil and half new soil. That is a good strategy.
@julien32114 жыл бұрын
@@JimPutnam Half old and half new in addition to Plant Tone? or do either strategy by itself?

Happy Spring Jim! I’m potting up some Swamp White Oak seedlings from my state Conservation Dept. I haven’t been able to find “Pine Bark Soil Amendment” where I live. I recently purchased a block of Cocoa Coir mulch (neutral PH) It is MegaMulch from the PlantBest company. Do you have any idea if that is a suitable substitute for Pine bark fines? I *do* have some hardwood “fines” ....how about these as a substitute for the pine bark? Thanks - it’s a joy to watch and learn as you transform your new property. 🙂 Kim

For Azalea, How long will it be before you need to upsize the container? The one you use doesn’t seem to be much bigger than the root ball. Thank you.
@kaittemurry4740 Жыл бұрын
He explained in the video.. have a tendency to water too much.. rule of thumb is usually 1 to 2" bigger than the plant.. can always upsize

I just purchased a Euonymus japonicus 'Happiness'. I want to transfer it to a container. What type of container do you recommend?
@Ibis3334 жыл бұрын
What do you recommend to do in order to keep a container lighter and more portable? Can you put something lighter than soil in the bottom?
@sarco644 жыл бұрын
You could consider using an Ups-A-Daisy insert.

Hey Jim, question. Do you know an online nursery that may be open to order annuals in a few weeks? Specifically Supertunias by proven winners? I’m worried because of the quarantine we won’t be able to go to the local nurseries and plants by mail doesn’t have annual that I could see.
@MousyLeigh4 жыл бұрын
Also that might be a good thing to make a video about in a couple of weeks.🤷🏻♀️
@JimPutnam4 жыл бұрын
I actually think that you can order them directly from the proven winners site

Hey there Jim, Vivian zone 7b Alexandria VA. Was checking out Plants By Mail and they seem to be out sold out of most everything. Is that normal for this time of year? If so, any other online sources you can recommend? Was looking for a Witch-hazel tree, golden redbud tree and some variegated red twig dog wood Shrubs. Also any recommendations on a variety of white flowering dogwood tree would be greatly appreciate. Thanks for all you do!!!

It can stay on that container a year for sure. Then it either need a little new soil or be repotted

I will for sure, but I am weeks away from that. Future containers will have the tube run through the hole in the bottom.
