Once the flower wilts you can chop it off near the bulb, maybe 3-5 inches. And it can start growing a new flower. My mom did it recently and its simply amazing! Definitely don't throw it away since it can come back the following year.

I had an amaryllis bloom twice in one winter once. I was pretty excited. But so far I've never been able to replicate it. I wonder if it as something to do with the conditions where the bulb was grown, or maybe just a really healthy bulb.
