I didn't know you could sew over the pins.

Every once in a while the needle comes down exactly on a pin and bends/breaks, so it's a good time saver if you like to live dangerously. 🤣

Do you have to sew vinyl on sewing machine
@smarmyclothes2 ай бұрын
I've never tried sewing it by hand, but I don't see why you couldn't. You might need some specialty tools - at the very least a very sharp needle and a good thimble.

I've watched so many of these and while they are all basically the same, yours, using "visual math" and drawings made all the difference for me! I used to sew a LOT but it was with traditional patterns. This is great and I need the step - by step. Thanks so much!

how do i knot the thread? is it doubled? i'm very new to this and i'm so confused 😭😭😭😭
@smarmyclothes4 ай бұрын
When I knot my thread, I like to double the end of it - just an inch or so. It makes the knot thicker. Otherwise, sometimes the knot can pull through the fabric when you're tightening up the stitches. Alternately, you can quadruple the knot, but I think doubling the end of the thread is easier/faster. Tie twice and I'm done. The thread should not be doubled when sewing.

This is very similar to what I want to make with the insul-brite but I'm still learning how to use it. If I wanted to use another layer of batting, such as Warm & Natural, would I put it on top of the insul-bright on the side the cat would lay on, or under it so that it is near the floor outer part? I’m guessing you don’t want to block the insul-bright but wasn’t sure. Or maybe one layer on each side to make it reversible?
@smarmyclothes4 ай бұрын
That's a good question! The Insulbright instructions for a potholder actually suggest you put a layer of batting between two layers of Insulbright. I don't think that would do much for you in the case of a pet bed since you're not trying to keep the heat OUT but in. I *think* the batting would probably allow enough air/heat transfer without blocking the Insulbright that you could put it on the inside... but I haven't tested it, so it might be better to err on the side of putting it on the outside.

What stitch did you use to sew it closed using the machine?
@smarmyclothes6 ай бұрын
Just a regular old straight stitch, and I try to stitch about 1/8" from the edge. That way there's very little seam allowance showing once it's finished.

I love the idea, and I’m not meaning to say anything negative just slight suggestion….because the placement of bottom of rib cage is not the most flattering to the natural breast kinda giving the impression the breast is lower the rib cage, or maybe this look works better on smaller cup sizes, I’m new to this so maybe I am over thinking it….so when I try this I am wondering what I can do to maybe fix this gravitational look? Maybe this is actually the most realistic….so if I am wrong please don’t tear me to shreds it’s just an honest observation because I plan to rock this look too
@aprilshand89247 ай бұрын
Maybe wider at bottom of rib cage would do it?
@rainman98826 ай бұрын
I’ve had titty related issues when it comes to crafting aswell lmfao. Try scaling up the design, as smaller designs are more prone to morphing when the fabric is manipulated/stretched. Also, line up the stencil closest to your natural rib cage placement, as this will give the fabric a natural position that imitates the way breasts sit under the rib cage normally. Idk if I worded this well but I hope it helps :)
@aprilshand89246 ай бұрын
@@rainman9882 thanks for getting what I meant cuz I know it’s not meant to be anatomically correct, and I am sure it’s just practice to figure out size and placement to the body which is why it’s best to use a chalk pen before committing to permanent markings….

I know this video is old, but maybe you'll see this anyway. Been using kids glue on fabric for years, works great. Another trick is to use a lighter to burn the ends of the zipper and do a tack stitich on the end to strenghten it. Great Video.
