I normally don't comment on videos... but this was a excellent video. I have been watching a lot of blueberry videos lately where those are informational yours was inspiring. From music choices, to video transitions capturing the exact details needed at the right time with minimal worthless air. Again well done videos!!! Keep up the good fight!!! I just put in 5 bushes (2 varieties) I bought that are last year cuttings. Being northern climate varieties they came dormant no leaves and planted them back in March in peat moss pine bark and compost similar to your setup. Spring has sort of sprung here in northern Ohio and all 5 have budded out and looking good. Except we still have chilly nights down in the mid 30's-40's and day time highs of 45-55 and their leafs are a purple/red from the stresses of temp swings but otherwise are growing outward with their second row of leaf sets. I have another 7 bushes (last year cuttings) I just bought from Tractor Supply I came across last week that are in sad shape and were very dried out in the roots... they were 1/2 off so I brought them home and potted them as a rescue project of sorts but have little hope for them as their leafs (full size) which tells me they were green housed are droopy and yellowing and they haven't responded to being watered have them in a lighted warm 60-65 degree garage for now til the outside weather warms if any of them make it.

I just transplanted my Northland Blueberry plant in the ground and its leaves are Scorched. Brown on edges with splashes of purple towards the middle, the brown edges are making its way into the center of the leaves. On the youngest leaves they have that chlorophyl look. I know its not Fertilizer burn because I only used that cottonseed meal just 1/4 cup not on the rootball. Im going to take it out of the ground and put it in a bucket and baby the heck out of it for the next year. I did everything that you said to do, but one thing I did not take into account was hardening off my blueberry plant that I got from the nursery. I dont know if it will survive. The stem/canes are green but just no leaves on it. Say a prayer for me.

Hi Growing out the box! My question is will my blueberries be fine if I used pine bark mulch instead of nuggets? Also, if I don't have compost would kitchen scraps work? Lastly, would blood meal be fine just at time of planting until I get some cotton seed meal?
@growingoutthebox4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question. 1st. I would personally never put blood meal on my blueberry bushes. You will get a lot of green growth and fewer berries. Cotton seed meal is all I use but berry tone is an option. Run the pine bark mulch over with a lawn mower or if you have a chipper. Mix it into the compost. The compost helps feed the plant. I would not dig around the plant because it would destroy the roots that sit on the top.

Thanks a million for this video, I have brought many berry bushes and they always die. I did take notes. The best garden I ever seen.

Thank you Patrice. I appreciate that. If you implement the planting tips in this video you will realize just how easy it is to grow the blueberries. Fall is a great time to plant if you already have your plants. I'm planting more grapes which I grow almost the same. Any questions please feel free to ask.

@@growingoutthebox I live in NC and I have been trying to grow kiwis also and they too die. Do I need to plant the same as the berries?
@growingoutthebox Жыл бұрын
@@patricemcdee1587 Blueberries grow in very acidic soil. They need a pH of around 4.5 to 5.5. Kiwi prefer acidic soil but not to the extent of blueberries. Plant vines in well-drained soil with a pH between 5.0 to 6.5. and lots of organic matter like good compost. I would only use an all purpose balanced organic slow release fertilizer with low #s like a 2.2.2. Most important is that you have a male and female plant. Male flowers have a yellow center due to their pollen-bearing anthers. Female flowers are larger than male. The center pistil, which receives the yellow pollen is a bright white. I hope that helps.

I just bought two blurry bushes. I like the containers you planted them in. Where can I purchase some and what are the sizes for your blueberries.

Can I replant my bushes at this time? They have stopped producing and I want to add new bushes. I have them in the ground with borders. I don't have the room in my yard to plant separately. I'm in MD zone 7
@growingoutthebox2 ай бұрын
Yes you can replant them but you will more than likely need to use the growing medium in this video. If you haven't pruned there is most likely why they are not producing.

Thanks for the info. A new subscriber. I have 2 blueberries in 1 gallon pots i need to plant up. I dont have the room for that size container, so what is the smallest size container you reommend planting in & still get a decent harvest?
@growingoutthebox Жыл бұрын
A 15 gallon container should be sufficient. Remember, the roots are shallow and closer to the top so wider is better than depth. Peat moss, compost and mini pine bark nuggets. And at least 3 inches of pine bark mulch. 👍🏽 You got this!

Sharing years of experience. Thanks boss! I have 6 container blueberries growing. They're looking good. Should I give them a fertilizer boost as they start to ripen? Or let them be?
@growingoutthebox5 ай бұрын
Water…. Fertilizer early spring and late summer. During fruiting a drink a day. On average 3 gallons per week. When fruiting I water everyday.
