What if the soil is not soil but sand? I live in Florida and my backyard is sandy. Can I still use the plugs?

Great stuff. Talked to a grounds keeper for the “lion country safari” in SanDiego 25 years ago. My turf of choice for a quarter century!

Does Zoysia ever go dormant in the Phoenix, AZ climate? Anyone have experience in this desert environment? Looking to replace my Burmuda / Rye Grass rotation cycle.

When we received our plugs in the mail they were upside down and mostly brown with barely any green. The pamphlet that came with them said it was normal. Hoping we didn't get ripped off!

How'd it turn out
@josephstein184 жыл бұрын
@@_barncat Not good at all. Turns out our fears were justified, most of the brown was dead zoysia. We watered every day as instructed. I feel the zoysia that was alive was so traumatized it took forever for any of it to establish. We managed to get the company to agree to resend us some of the zoysia next spring. If you buy, I recommend from a company that starts the plugs out in little plug pots. We got sod that was cut up into plugs.

I think I have this grass in part of my lawn and that section is extremely think and durable but does turn yellow in winter. west of Indianapolis so we get very cold winters and hot summers. how do I know if what that grass is zoysia and if so I would definitely like to purchase some plugs. I do not want to plug up my existing section as its already perfect.

Zoysia grass is known to go dormant in the winter by turning a brown color. It appears to be dead but as soon as spring/summer comes and the grass turns back into a lush green and doesn't remain dead looking then it's most likely a zoysia grass.

Is there any benefit to adding black sand to the ground between plugs? I heard it will spread a lot faster in sandy loamy soils
@TheAgriboss8 жыл бұрын
It will spread a little faster in sand but sand does not retain water well so you may have to irrigate more frequently.

Don’t do it if you live in northern U.S. lawn goes ugly straw color during winter, dormant season.

Are there any green lawns during the winter? I’m from the Midwest but now live in Tampa. I love the green all year long. However, at my new house with NO HOA, I’m doing Zoysia instead of St. Augustine because I want a softer grass. It will probably turn brown for 2-3 months and I’ll ok with that.
