Thin coat stop end beads work really well on the internal angles and give you a better edge than a chalk line

ive just had an extension built. im ready to board it. it has high vaulted ceilings. i was thinkin im best boarding the ceiling 1st and then walls? however its 62.5mm (50mm insulsted board). if i cut the angle between the wall and rafters on the insulated board to keep the gap tight at wall, do i just scrim tape the joint between the wall board and ceiling board? or is there a specific joining bead for this?

When I'm on price work I just round it all in then theirs no focus point to the eye, plus if the joinery work is wonky donkey it makes them look good to.

ever tried gypsum plaster or taping mud ? you know, the stuff that sets as fast as you put it on? you need to get it smooth while putting it on the wall, otherwise you'll sand it forever.. i never used that pink looking stuff but it looks like a holiday compared to what i'm used to

just a Q I've though about this and when I get a chance I will try it and let you know, surly if we use an angle skim stop bead on these angles you will get a nice straight line' I know there lovely on external angles, what do you think? I will try it next time I have the chance and let you know. kev.

Hi mate! I actually tried it and to be honest it was a bit of a pain - I do know some plasterers who do it this way but I just found it to be a bit of a head ache. However, it is probably the best way to get a straight line!

Plastering by Kell Brook. I get that you're doing a 'good' job and it looks great but i never got the obsession with having perfectly straight and square and flat surfaces and angles and corners. I live in an old French farmhouse and nothing is square - gives it character and looks good. To me the only thing that matters is what it looks like when painted. The finished product.

Interesting you say the plaziflex gives u nice crisp angles Blaine, that's the part I struggle on with a plazi ! I find the blade too flexible to work a straight angle?? Or maybe my technique wrong??

Is the straight line not dictated by the plasterboard and how straight that is?
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 5 жыл бұрын
That's the problem - if the line is all over the place then you have to find a way to correct it. It's rarely straight!

A chalk line is a good idea, but we always used feather-edges on the first and second coats to keep straight, then applied a really 'tight' third coat for that nice 'crisp' edge :-)

I've have a vaulted ceiling to do Friday in a loft conversion the boarding done by the client isn't the best and is unwilling to pay extra for me to reboard it so I'm just skimming it he's asked for angles not a curved but the middle strip in the ceiling is the worst off the boarding what would you advise mate I was thinking of bonding the middle strip out level then skim it once bonding set to give me a good marker and hard angle to work to this client is a nightmare just to save a few quid
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly that mate. I would run a string line and bond to the line. As you said you have a hard angle to work with then. That's the best thing to do 👍

Really time consuming and takes a bit of thought, Much harder than just slapping it on a box room. Much more skill doing these.looks sweet pal. Ignore the know it all twats. 😉
