Thank you for the chicken foot technique. I'm a member of the butte symphony and we have to play in 4,5 6,7 all the time. I always struggled my hands aren't big and all of my fingers are short, but I have a good feeling this technique will help me out tremendously. Thanks you

I will surely follow your advice. My hands and fingers are not big, either. My cello is 7/8 but still sometimes it is really hard to reach certain positions (I have been practicing Waltzin’ Matilda). Thanks for your lessons!

You can do it, just follow their instructions and treat it like learning 1st position, so your form is just as p-important as your finger placement

hi teacher ,and thanks a lot for this video ,it means a lot to us to expand more positions playing ,i have a question which also can matter to all of us ,as a beginner Cello player ,now is 2 and half Months, how much do we need to practice? i recently started to do lessons with my teacher but in this 2 and half Months i play every single day between 2:30- 3 Hr and on weekends can go up to 4 hrs,is that to much or to lees or what ??????? btw i like your lessons and i am able to play some of your songs ,most loved The Godfather and thanks for uploading that.

Hello Mirko, you ask a good question I will answer in my next talk. My short answer is keep working, just be more precise. I noticed you are playing Schindler's List, yet you missed the Bb (Si bemol) in the higher position. Maybe you should consider incorporating a scale, etude and song, all in the same key as a practice session. Also, just a question: is your cello a full size? You certainly have been blessed with large hands, which is mostly a blessing yet your strength can be your downfall. Your goal, if you were my student, would be like Ferdinand the Bull, a gentle giant who play with the most delicate touch. Working on your bow touch would be essential to you achieving a clean sound. Keep working, you are progressing well :-)

Jonathan Humphries hello teacher and thanks a lot for answering ,i cant want for your next video about my question ,as for your questions, yes my Cello is full size 4/4 but the biggest problem is i am so tall ,i was a pro basketball player ,204 cm height and now for a long years doing bodybuilindg ,so imagine that combination ,bodybuilding and playing Cello :) as for the hands that strength is going to make me problems cause i still cant stop pushing with a thumb ,speacialy when i play 1st positiion and then my lower elbow part hurt so much and i cant hold much,as for a Shindlers List even i can read the notes thanks to you,i was loooking the video clip of 2 Cellos and i follow their hands what notes the play and i repeat,is that bad ? think so yes instead of reading the notes and doing my own position shifts

If you understand music theory and interval relationships I don't think naming positions is needed. Positions aren't needed for moderate to advanced students or even at all.
