Thanks for this awesome tutorial. I picked up my 11 yr. old sons electric guitar this weekend and learned this. My first time! The boy better watch out, mom may be rocking out more than him! Seriously, this was most helpful for a total beginner.

Hey Marty, even though the way you taught it wasn't in the original key, which is what i hoped for, it was actually still helpful. This tutorial was actually like guidelines for me to learn it on the original key. I think its amazing that even though you taught it in a different key i was still able to learn the song and for THAT my friend, i subscribe. For those who want to learn the original way, all you do is tune the low E string down to a D and the A string down to a G, leave every other string the same. If you follow this tutorial with this new tuning set up, most of it is the same thing, just one or two parts are different. I can't really explain the different parts in a comment. Sorry if i confuse anyone, and sorry if i seem to be disrespectful to Marty, i know this is HIS tutorial and not mine, but thanks again Marty.

its an effect pedal that you turn on by stepping on it, its not built into the guitar, guitars don't have effects built into them only tone and volume knobs and a pickup selector (on electric guitars i mean) and there are many more effects than just chrous if you are wondering. Look them up on youtube or something and watch videos on them learn about them and their uses, you have the internet so use your rescources.

Nicky van der Biezen Nirvana didn't copy any bodies music, most of it was copied, yes some of it sounds similar to others but that's the same with any song it's gonna sound similar to another, yes it is simple that's why so many people learn their songs because they are easy to learn, I agree some of it is boring, I still love the band, some of their songs are a little repetitive like Rape Me but whatever, they have amazing songs

Marty, thanks for the lessons. I started 3 days ago, am using Yousician freebie, but was bored already because I only get a small amount of Yousician time a day for free. I found your vids when I looked up how to play "The man Who Sold the World" intro and I really liked it, been trying the chords too. Have also tried this and also "Nothing Else Matters".Your teaching style is very methodical and patient, like your dad teaching you to ride a bicycle; I listen, I trust you. You break the process down into steps, you take it slowly, explain it properly, and you don't pretend to be Jimi Hendrix, unlike so many other people who give lessons on youtube. My fingers are stupidly sore! Thanks again.

Yes, "real" "original" "radio" version of this song is played starting with D. I learned to play this by ear "back in the old days" and it sounds best to start the lick on 5th string, 5th fret muffled. The bass overrides the guitar anyways.

I love this lesson. Easy to follow, easy to understand. When playing, what effects are being used? It sounds kinda watery, so I imagine a chorus is on. Any others? I just can't seem to nail the tone. I have just a bit of delay and about half of the available reverb. Perhaps a flanger or phaser? Nah, don't sound right either.

I believe that the tuning was different than the standard tuning, possibly a full step down or half step(The recorded version is also different from the unplugged version aswell). Also, he used a chorus effect on this tutorial (usually pedal based) but some amps come with pre-installed effects.

On the 1st sequence (to start the song) we use two open E, but on the 2nd and after sequences, we cut one open E, right? Because you said it starts all over again, but you didn't mention that. Anyway I loved your tutorial. It's really helpful.
