It’s 2.47am in Queensland. I’m laying on my bed in the full moonlight, listening to the nearness of you in the gentle rain. What a wonderful world

It's pleasure to hear the name John Mehegan mentioned .He was the pioneer in jazz piano instruction more than 50 years ago .Many prominent jazz pianists studied with him.His instruction books are still valid today Let's keep his name alive .

Hello Donald, there are several books written by Mehegan. Which one should I start reading?

Mine is called "Jazz Improvisation 4, Contemporary Piano Styles". It has all the voicing and comping patterns plus much more.

Thank you Christian, perfect timing. I'm exploring "The Nearness of You" and this is very nice.

Whats fascinating is the melody changes harmony before the chord comes in. Makes it romantically harmonic for the singer, then the pianist comes in with the chord on top of another. Hoagie is a wonder.

Thanks for the lessons, I really like your teaching style. I have the Real Book but don’t see this song in there, I thought for sure it would be a must, am I missing something?

It must be in the Realbook 2, then. There are many editions out there by now.
