How to play ‘Angel Of Mercy’ by Black Label Society Guitar Solo Lesson w/tabs

Hi guys! Welcome episode 151 of Learn That Solo! Today we’ll look at the second solo in heart wrenching ballad of win: ‘Angel Of Mercy’ by Black Label Society.
Tuning: E A D G B E (Standard)
I love this solo. It has a really ‘Stairway’ vibe but it’s way more technical. Zakk is still the king and we must all respect that. Be well versed in pentatonics and a little wah whilst playing it will get you closer to more of Zakk’s authentic sound.

Very good video man, I was lazy enough to look for the tab of this solo instead of getting by ear. Just skipped to the tabbed parts, but I congratulate you for your work. PS: I strongly believe the A minor pentatonic phrase in section 1 starts right on bar and not before, starting in the higher A note. Cheers mate!

Watched quite a few of your lessons now, and your technique is awesome! Question... The Zakk Wylde 2 notes per string pentatonic alternate stuff.... Is all the picking down up, even when your changing string, no economy picking?

Gary Moseley He probably is picking everything (you can see it while slowing the video). Personally for me it was hard to master "down-up" pattern, then I came across Andy Jame's tutorial on some zakk wylde licks, in which he says he also can't get the speed, thus he uses "up-down" pattern instead. I began practicing, and in just half an hour you can feel how smooth and natural your motions are, rather than using "down-up". It is not the original way to play things but you'll get the same result and will understand what Zakk and other crazy people on youtube feel using "down-up" (for example a guy named Panos Arvanitis has crazy skills).
