Apparently it works good if you play in Stamina mode. You can beat the Master hand and the game doesn't freeze.

This has to have been intentional. He's basically fully playable. Maybe he was playable at some point in an event match; but the game would often freeze; so they had to cut it?

I believe he is in here for testing, so they could go in and make sure all of his moves worked on each character, they left him in because it was easier than removing him. His value is 0 or something like that (I believe because of the final battle and its not having a little load screen) so when you start without selecting a character it loads him up because your character value is 0. Normally this isn't possible because you can't continue until all characters are selected, but because you enter the character select screen and exit at the same time it forces the game to progress to the map screen.

if you get stuck on now loading it means you brought the 3rd player cursor over the character selection. you need to make sure that you turn on the third person thing by clicking the upper corner

He makes it harder than it seems all you have to do is go on your name selection and do what he says by going to the back button and you have to press the button at the same time with the other controller on the back presses it then press a with both controllers and that's simple right hope this helped you all 👍

He explained it, the game gets confused and loads the first character registered in the code. It just so happens to be Master Hand so it's a glitch since you are essentially tricking the game. I don't think they planned to input a random button sequence that can be easily failed and hide it as a glitch in the program by forcing it to continue to the stage selection screen.

I might be wrong but I believe you can do this without a second player active. If you start holding b right before going to the name entry screen, you can go to the name entry and press a right when you exit the character selection screen. I'd say this a lot harder to pull off but it's the only way you can use master hand outside of normal melee.

@linksstp It only works with Master Hand because you go to the level selection screen with a character unselected, which the game interprets as character "0". As it happens, character "0" in the game's code is reserved for Master Hand, so you end up playing as him. Crazy Hand uses a different number (somewhere above 25, more than likely), and there is likely no way to trick the game into thinking you've selected it in this manner.

Why would you just do like that? What's the point of the other controller? This is way more easier: Player 3 pick no character, but hover to the Name Entry button, but do not press A. The other controller, hover to the Back button. Both controllers have to press A at the same time. Choose a stage, and Master Hand will appear as P3. Easy asf, right?

It's the same thing with Night Terror in Soul Caliber III and the Max Tours in Ridge Racer (PSP). What they do is design non-playable boss characters to be super OP and only have them make a move once in a while. This way they appear to be a challenge, when really it's like someone controlling the world's most OP character and lazily tapping buttons without looking. Max Tour enemies, for example, are set on a 15 second nitrous Interval and max speed. To win, conserve 3 nitrous tanks to the end.

This glitch goes back to when the GameCube existed and the game wasn’t being shown on KZbin yet because it was taking some time just to make the Nintendo 64 emulator, so the learning experience of making emulators sure took a while tor developers to understand. It’s funny to think master hand was playable by an oversight in the game where the custom names menu and character select screen is. The reason a glitch like this cannot be fixed by Nintendo is because master hand isn’t unused in the game, since it’s code is in the game by every single sprites hexadecimal values, the game would always load with every characters animations, since master hand has everything from having an appearance to all of its animations to moves, you can’t get rid of the ability to play as it.

You can perform the glitch without even "pressing B and A at the same time" or some over-complicated shit like that. You just need to press Name Entry as the 3rd player without having a character selected and then press Back as the other player with a character selected, all at the same time.

Here's the move list: Up -dpad + b = shoot lassers, back d-pad + b = shoot rockets, up -dpad + a = master hand shoots off like a rocket, back d-pad + a = punch, down d-pad + a = slap the ground, throw button + any d-pad = master hand grabs opponent, forward d-pad + R = poke, back d-pad + R = slam ground, up d-pad + R = spin around diving, down d-pad + R = another hit the ground move, up d-pad + L = sweep the floor, down d-pad + L = walk on fingers across floor, back d-pad + L = slap
