I am a musician of over 50 years. I started when I was 10 years old. Those were the days when the piano teacher had a ruler in her hands to push your fingers to the right note. We had to learn how to read and write our music before performing on stage. Unless you had a fantastic ear then those music lessons were priceless. Today it's auto tune and you step on stage and receive a Grammy. lol However with all the experience that I have on the piano/keyboard and with music theory of which I studied in college I could NEVER play by ear. LOL My ear training teacher didn't flunk me only because I had all passing grades in every other music class. Therefore with wonderful people like you on the internet telling me what chords are in the song, well the rest is off to the races for me because there is not a chord on EARTH that I haven't had my hands on. Thank you for not being selfish with your blessing. I give grade school children free lessons in my area in an effort to pass my music knowledge to the next generation at no charge. I remember my parents having to come up with an extra 9 dollars a week for my lessons back in 1965. I did my chores around the house in an effort to earn what was being paid for my lessons. God Bless You.

Thanks for your story, Georgette with that beautiful name! We also had very little money and socially conscious lady in the village gave me my first lessons for rather symbolic amount. So bless you, too , for your engagement as a caring teacher!

There is a generation of musicians that were born in the age of computer technology. I am 68 years old and started music when I was 10 years old and continued through college. Then I stopped playing for a very long time. When I came back to my blessing 15 years ago musicians like you were online teaching everything a person needs to know about music at no charge. I was shocked to know that knowledge that my folks paid for is online with an instructor at no charge. As I said in my opening sentence there is a generation of people under me that take this for granted and not use what is being offered. A person can start from never touching an instrument in their life to learning how to read and write music. And that's another thing, none of the young musicians around me know how to read or write music. Thank You and all the professional musicians who have shared your music with others who want to learn. I am having a BALL with the way you voiced these chords. God Bless You!

WOW, OMG!! Finally someone play As Time Geos By like a love song; exactly as 2 lovers dance under a full moon in the Autumn cool night and leaves elegantly tap out the rhythm of 2 hearts as One. Thank you.

You’re absolutely right people get carried away with this song. It sounds so much better played the way you did it. That’s how I personally do it myself. I’m looking to add my skill level and ran across your channel. Very nice. Very good job.

I like both styles you discussed. The "cruseship" and the "economical". It depends on my mood to pick up one or the other, sometimes it is fun just let the song flow on its own. Some runs and fills may sound great if one does not overkill. What do you think? As a matter of fact I was about to ask you to teach us a couple of tricks when it comes to cocktail piano, or whatever you might call it. Could you? That would be very very interesting, indeed!!

Hi Claiton! Of course I agree, it's always about the balance and personal taste. With requests I handle it: If there are more of you asking for the same thing then there is a good chance I actually do it. And cocktail piano now is one of those. So expect something in the next 2 weeks;-)

Loved the arrangement except the ending, which I thought finished rather 'classically'. A more jazzy ending I felt would have finished this off nicely :) Nonetheless, a most enjoyable listen and watch. Thank you.

Very beautiful. I’m working on a simplified version of this from a lead sheet in the key of C. Can you recommend a good study book to help me learn these lovely chords? I’m an intermediate level in classical training, but I’m becoming obsessed with jazz

Have a look at a book by Levine. I think it's just called Jazz Piano.

That’s a classic but i also really love Jazz Keyboard Harmony by Phil DeGreg. Very methodical and covers things in a way that Levine assumes you might already know or already got good at in the previous chapter.

Hey, Chris! Im trying to learn how to do a little improv on standards. Some, i think, better played as written on the lead sheet, and plug in my own left hand. Could you take a standard that you do improv, and break down how for us? Maybe you have one you can refer me to! Thanks so much! Im sick homebound; would so appreciate!

Well, a channel has to keep kind of a compass not to be a grocery store. That would go clearly something for a jazz channel, which I am not. I am touching jazz, but just that...

There is no E natural in your B flat dim.- ??? B flat minor 6th would be a better name, as you're playing it- Thanks for supplying the chart and for the video- it seems like that 3rd chord, which is the only contentious chord in the tune, is either a g minor 7th fllat 5, or a B flat 6th- not trying to be critical- just figuring out how to play it- thanks
