Perfect! Thanks! I actually hear 316 in there somewhere too.

Eddie painted with different tones in the studio. Live was like going to battle. The Frankie and 5150 were his weapons of choice mostly. Then of course his signature models later on. Ed for the most part stuck with one main primary guitar live for the most part. 😎🤟🏻

@@Ranch5150SkinWalker you have put in years of critical listening and studying Eddie's approach. You feel it moreso than hear it. You get the blues vibe and undertone that he is coming from. You can have all the gear you want but without that piece of it, you cant begin to emulate and honor what he did. (BTW, I was that 12 year old kid in 1978 who heard Eruption and have not put a guitar down since. VH has blasted on my stereo every day since then. Great to hear what you do!)

@@TradBowBruce thanks again, I have dedicate a lot of time to it over the years I won’t lie. But there’s always the next bar. The next piece of the puzzle. Endless search. For what I am not sure. Glad it still is inspiring after all these years. I heard eruption and YRGM at 10-11 years of age in 1981. Thought it was a spaceship. Had no idea what was going on lol. Bought all the albums on cassette when 16 and had a job. 5150 came out and changed my life. Seeing them live was also like a magic and the best times ever. ☮️

Great lesson on one of my VH favorites! I didn't realize how similar 316 was until you got to the verse here 😳😁 I remember hearing the story that Ed would play 316 on an acoustic to calm Wolfie down when Valerie was pregnant with him, sounds like he might have been noodling on it as early as 5150
@Ranch5150SkinWalker2 жыл бұрын
Yeh for sure man. He did it on live without a net 🙌. I would say it’s more of a dedication to Wolfie vs written for him. Since he played it several years before she was pregnant. Either, great song!

Sounds great! What type of strat is that and what pickups are you using? Would love a rundown of the rig and settings!
@Ranch5150SkinWalker2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! It just a player strat. 2021 model. Stock pickups made in Mexico. Basic setting on my Ax8. Suhr Badger with some gain. I added reverb. Delay and chorus in pro tools. Delay was stereo. 350 Ms left and 600 Ms right. About 18% mix level. 25% feedback. Reverb. Large plate. 10% mix. Triangle wave chorus at about 30% depth. 40% mix.

This is awesome. I hate when people (and music stores) lable VH as a metal band. They most definitely aren't. Eddie likes harmony, especially sus chords, he likes melody. He's essentially a piano player on the guitar, and that sure gave him a unique sense of melody and harmony. Of course he's a rock badass player, but very often people forget the complexity of his beautiful chords. See? I can't speak of him in the past. Eddie IS :-) Man, that sure is a beautiful strat! Love that baked maple neck! Is that the original neck? Thanks for another great lesson, Marty :-)
@Ranch5150SkinWalker2 жыл бұрын
Very well said man. Eddie was very in touch with harmony and chord structures. He put things together so well and made it feel great when he played it. The guitar is a stick player strat MIM with a roasted maple neck. They had a special run of these. It a 2021 I believe. I snagged it used from Casino guitars a few months ago when I popped in there. It really plays great. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate your support! 😎🙌

Eddie Van Halen was a freaking genius. He must have carried a couple of rolling flight cases for guitars just with different tunings.. I wonder if his guitar tech on the road sworn to secrecy all the shootings that he used phone interview with Hemet or the year before he died about his family coming to America. Any talked about when he started playing out everybody's trying to figure out what he was playing and how he was playing he said he would try to hide it as much as possible. You should have pissed him off at first people trying to copy him. But then he realized they were doing it because I loved what you did so much
@Ranch5150SkinWalker2 жыл бұрын
I totally think the studio stuff was too secret. I mean, info is still coming out to this day we didn’t know. For the road, I think Frankie and the 5150 did the majority of what he needed. Then enter the EBMM and Wolfgang years!

Hello Martin, could you advice a good guitar squier and pickups to obtain that sound? And if it will be great the same guitar also to play Hendrix?
@Ranch5150SkinWalker2 жыл бұрын
I'd look at a used fender player strat or one of the newer squier Strats. If you want a good set of pickups at a decent price look up the stratosphere guitar parts shop on line. They sell single coil sets that are Alnico sets for about $30. They sound great!
