How to play Cissy Strut (the right way)

In this quick lesson I'm going to show you how to play Cissy Strut by the Meters on Bass. I'm also adding a link to George Porter Jr. and his explanation of how he plays this iconic bass line.

Love the analysis of the variations on the original theme with the context of space--especially the back and forth between "original way" and "new way". That really helped showcase the concept. Plus it helps show how a tune evolves over time as it gets handed down from musician to musician. Outstanding video.

Congrats on the bass spot with Zig. Him and George are my absolute fave bassist and drummer/ rhythm section. I'm new to your channel. You're a lucky man to be playing with Zigaboo! Any chance you can lean into his ear and try to get him to come do a gig here in NY? Preferably Brooklyn bowl..which I'm sure would give him the gig. Can't wait for Foundations of Funk when they come in August but I'd still love to see Zigs' solo band.
