Really enjoy this game. Prices were dumb last year and just hard to find locally. But that seems to have mellowed a bit. Hoping this game continues going and more and more people get into it, its fun.
@MaPleWoRlDOrder2 жыл бұрын
Prices for the game are gonna always be high because of how they do their rarity system and promos. Typically a set has one great secret rare and one meh secret rare. A box MSRP is $90 and you get either one secret rare and one alternate art in a box or you get two alternate art cards. You usually need 4 of the good secret rares and since you aren't even guaranteed a secret rare in a box and the other one in the set is typically meh compared to the good one, the price of that card if often expensive. Especially in the case of something like Omnimon Zwart: Defeat. It's a secret rare and used in a lot of the top decks so it's $60ish and you need 4. That's already $240 starting if you wanna build one of those decks. Also they love to print strong, exclusive promos that you can only get from that promo and they don't reprint them outside of other promo events (they haven't had a reprint set or anything like that yet.) For example if you want to play diaboromon you will need to get at least two of the tournament exclusive promo cards that are going for around $70 right now and it's only a T2 deck. Pulsemon for a long time was $35 to upwards of $55 each because it was exclusive to a promo pack that was given out randomly to stores to go with set 3 and stores weren't give very many. They also never got more in stock. Was a staple in yellow and you needed 3. Another massive issues I had with the game was the fact that every set that came out introduced a new best deck in the game and was winning most of the tournaments they entered. The first time that's not the case is for the next set releasing and I'm not sure about the set after that because I stopped playing before I read all the info about set 7. The game itself is enjoyable but the way it's way too expensive for a new TCG for me to want to stay invested in it. I'd just play magic or pokemon for the price it was costing me to play DIgimon. I swapped to cardfight vanguard instead
@MaPleWoRlDOrder2 жыл бұрын
I do hope they alter the way they do rarity and promos in the future. If so I would love to get back into the game. Until then it's really hard for me to recommend to anyone.

@@MaPleWoRlDOrder my point about price was to do with early last year, box prices were astronomical, not even local stores were doing the $90-110 a booster box should have been... Everywhere was close to $200 around here, sometimes you would find boxes for $150ish online. Starter decks couldnt be had for the $12 or so they should be.. even locals $25.. it was dumb. Sealed prices have gone back to normal for the most part, sub $80 on most boosters now online back to $90ish instores.

The resource system makes me wanna try this game on it's own. It's super cool. Just a minor correction at 4:05 In newer sets, there are now Option cards that can remain on the field. It is worth clarifying that you need a Digimon, or Tamer specifically on the field to activate Option cards from your hand, not just any card.

I am not sure if this was a change or a mistake in the original video, as I have only just started to explore the game, but there is/is now a Mulligan system, whereby the player going first you can redraw if desired, then the player going second may redraw if desired after the first player has chosen to/chosen not to. As an aside I found funny, the official rules are also oddly specific that the winner of Rock Paper Scissors goes first rather than getting to choose.

It's great to see someone as big as yourself shine some light on this really neat cardgame. Also want to add some stuff that was omitted in the video or not clear: >Your turn end when your memory goes below 0 AND once every effect finished resolving. For example if you attack for 2 securities and the first one is Hammer spark, even if you go below 0 you'll still keep going until the attack is finished. Another example from the green starter deck, you're at 1, you use "Needle Spray" (2 memory: suspend one of your opponent's digimon), BUT you have a Izzy in play which reads "[Your Turn] When one of your opponent's Digimon becomes suspended, you may suspend this Tamer to gain 1 memory." you can suspend it to go back to 0 and stay in your turn. >Also you can attack your opponent's security OR their suspended Digimons when attacking Still a great video to start playing, easy to understand and top quality like all of your content, and I hope you and everyone else looking at this video will have fun playing

I remember having some Digimon cards growing up. I never learned how that game worked and thought that this might be it. Didn't expect that it was a new game to coincide with a new anime. Sweet! I haven't done much with Digimon in some time now. Also, this game is straight up Duel Masters (or Kaijudo if you remember that version). Your five cards in the "security stack" are just like your five shields from your deck in DM. The "security effects" when they are flipped are just like the "shield triggers" in DM that let you cast that card immediately. One difference though is that when your shield is broken, it goes into your hand and not your graveyard (unless you cast it), so it was this great system that allowed you to catch up when you get beaten down. The power scaling on DM cards is also in multiples of 1000 and it's the same combat system of the creature with the greater power destroying the weaker one or trading if they're the same. No damage system there either. Attacking one at a time and your creature tapping to do so is the same. Only creatures with "Blocker" being able to block and needing to tap to block is the same. This game is straight up Duel Masters. That actually makes me more interested. Also, tsk tsk Professor. Don't you know that you don't "evolve" your digimon? You can only digivolve them! :P I could nitpick your pronunciation of "Agumon" too if I wanted. XD
@Twilord_2 жыл бұрын
It actually a spiritual successor to a spiritual successor to Duel Masters. Duel Masters own Ryan Miller made a game for Bandai called Chrono-Clash, which was supposed to be a huge crossover game - with brands from Naruto and My Hero Academia to Godzilla! Unfortunately the economic and legal realities of that project proved untenable to Bandai; but they didn't want to abandon such an elegant system. So they decided to make some further improvements and pair it with an IP that they actually owned. Digimon was the obvious choice.
@luliby23092 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's really interesting. This "Chrono-Clash" didn't actually make it off the ground though, did it? So I feel like it's still more fair to compare to Duel Masters. It is really similar. That crossover idea is interesting, it's basically what Magic's trying to do, only there it's a bad idea to throw away your unique brand and identity when you already have that. Doing a game that's a big crossover right from the start makes more sense. It did feel like this game was sort of like trying to give us Duel Masters again, only pairing it with an IP that's already known to try and make it perhaps more digestible to fans. Very interesting info. Thanks!
@Twilord_2 жыл бұрын
@@luliby2309 Chrono-Clash did have some success but as I recall after that the IP holders for the Godzilla version refused to play nice, so they couldn't hold the Godzilla VS Naruto VS Evangelion tournament that they wanted to. So it was very much Bandai taking their ball and going home to a franchise they own.

There's a mistake when describing the When Digivolving in the breeding area section. It is referring to when YOUR Digimon digivolves in the breeding area. It's When Digivolving effects do not activate. Beelzemon can still use it's effect if your opponent has another Digimon in play. Gabumon simply cannot be targetted by any effects regardless (unless it specifies the breeding area) because it's in the breeding area. They also cannot move a Digitama/Digi-Egg card, it must at least be Lv.3 or Higher. A much simpler way to describe it is "Digimon in the breeding area cannot be targetted by card effects, or activate their own effects unless that effect specifies the breeding area" because the Beelzemon description isn't completely wrong, but also wrong at the same time.

wow this game is very similar to duel masters, with mechanics such the health system, blockers, and shield triggers, but it also has some very unique mechanics like the hatching, shared resource system and evolutions stacking effects. Really cool, might have to try it out

Great video Professor. As someone who started playing about a month ago thanks to to this video I really appreciated it, but there are some points that may need to be corrected on an updated revision of this video: 4:18 - is not a [Security] effect per se, but there are indeed Digimon with [Security] effects that can trigger (e.g. BT6-056 Chikurimon). 5:34 - Mulligan rulings have been added to the game at the present (announced Feb 18th), allowing a player to re-draw 5 new cards as a first hand by returning the original first hand at the bottom of the deck. 11:08 - There are exceptions for Option cards that should remain in the field if specifically told by the card itself, usually to activate a effect after a turn. 12:04 - Not quite correct, cards in the Security Stack may also activate, go to hand or go to field based on if a [Security] effect declare it to be triggered immediately (e.g. BT2-090 Matt Ishida, as shown at 4:20). Also, a couple points that I consider should be mentioned for the sake of completion would be: - Your digimon can attack an opponent's digimon as long as it is suspended (and that attack can also be blocked by digimons or even re-routed by effects). - Side Decks (aka. Sideboards) rulings were also added (also announced Feb. 18th) allowing for additional 10 cards to be added for swapping between games as long as your final deck remains 50 card main deck with 5 digi-eggs and deck construction rules are respected (no more than 4 copies -or the limited amount- of a card total). - There are some Digimon that not only evolve from different colors, but can act as multiple color sources (e.g. BT-6061 Gigadramon) and what's more dual-color digimon are coming in BT8 set. Anyway thanks for this video as it's a great resource for newcomers to the Digimon TCG. Hope you can update it in the near future!

I'm kind of surprised they don't have a full digital version of the game. They already have the tutorial companion app ya know? Some people may find a digital version more accessible. I wish more card games had scannable card codes too like Pokemon and Magic (I think).

My wife got me some starter decks for Christmas this year after hearing me moan about how hard it was to get into the game due to scalpers all last year. Our LGS finally got some stock! This is the perfect reminder to try it out this weekend!

Yeah this game took me by surprise. Love it, memory is such a cool resource mechanic! Also digivolving up and stacking abilities feels very rewarding!!

Also you draw 1 each time you Digivolve, so you dont lose hand advantage by doing so.

So happy to see you making digimon tcg content, it's what brought me into the tcg community as a whole last year and in turn what got me into magic!

Honestly kinda feels like the tabletop TCG genre kinda needs both Digimon and Flesh & Blood to stay this hot. They're both honestly kinda easy gateways to the broader genre, as opposed to the closed system of the big three.

Looks like a cool game! I remember having cards from the original card game, but the game itself wasn’t great. This seems like vast improvement. If you’re interested in game suggestions, the Final Fantasy tcg is fun and may be worth checking out!

Very happy to see this game discussed! I love this game and was so frustrated to see that supply issues and scalpers hobbling the game before it started. It's fun with lots of interesting strategies, beautiful artwork (including recent old style tcg art) and is a pretty affordable game. One deck, Rookie Rush, had been a meta juggernaut for a long time and was extremely cheap to build. Boxes tend to have solid value, with alt arts that are beautiful on their own, but very tradable if you'd rather have more cards than bling.

Glad you made this video. I've been playing the game with a friend for about a month now & I must say it is REALLY fun. This game benefits greatly from being a new game. The basic rules & mechanics of the game are reminiscent of other popular games like Magic, but with many fresh twists on old systems. Even the security (life) & memory (mana) operate in a way that is very distinct from other popular card games & add tons of opportunities for a skilled player to incorporate strategy into deckbuilding & how to play out each turn. There are all kinds of seemingly minor quirks that improve the experience as well. For example, there are many effects that let you reveal X cards from the top of your deck & add 1 of them to your hand. In most other card games, the cards you don't add would be shuffled back into your deck, which means lots of shuffling & waiting for your opponent to shuffle their deck, but this game is different. The cards you don't add are placed on the bottom of your deck in any order you like. That simple change means you can quickly add a card, & move on with your turn, without wasting any time. If you're curious, I highly recommend you give the game a try.
