One of the highlights of my music career was meeting, and spending sometime with Mr. Fontana... Absolute southern gentleman, with a smile, and a happy disposition to the people he met... R.I.P. Mr. Fontana....

I love Elvis’s first band. The simplicity had great feel for foot tapping. Scotty’s fills with slap back echo was so groovy. The upright bass had great tone compared to an electric bass. I always like brushes. Willie’s drummer liked them too. Years ago, at a nightclub in Portugal, enjoying green wine and Fado (with acoustic 12 string), an old brush drummer played. He was prancing on his set with a groovy, upbeat, happy feel. I like rhythm, but quietly in the background. You can tell, drummers like DJ were really listening to the other musicians and were responding to what they heard. Chet had some good qualities, but, like Les Paul, he played in an old man style I did not care for. Only some of Chet’s stuff I liked. So, no need to be afraid of Chet, even though he could play some technically good stuff. Elvis got too much Pussy. The drugs eventually did him in. But for Elvis, too much pussy. It caused the downfall of King Solomon also.
