Great Gift Ideas for Drummers imp.i114863.net/Gjzq5r
Stevie Wonder's groove is unmatched and one of the secrets behind this is that he often creates a very unique feel somewhere in between straight eighth notes and swung triplets. One of the most famous examples of a groove like this is his song "Superstition".
Especially the hi-hat pattern in the intro section is great to explain and demonstrate his unique feel and groove.
Join Chris Hoffmann as he gives you insight into Stevie Wonder's phrasing and explains the figures used in this famous drum intro.

Stevie did an interesting thing I’ve noticed on a few songs where he starts with a complicated high hat rhythm then simplifies it once the bass kicks in but in a way that it doesn’t sound like it’s changed unless you listen closely. It’s like he tricks your brain into hearing bits that aren’t there anymore.

Great lesson for a song that is not as easy as it sounds. Another tool I use is listening back to my own performance.

Lots of practice!!! that stuff is not easy. People think fast heavy metal is hard but to me this is very difficult to deliver. Well done!

I am quite surprised, I thought Hal blaine or Richard Allen played the drums on Superstition! Stevie must be so talented to also play drums!

Hallo Mr. Hoffmann, very interesting subjects...would you be so kind and specifiye what brand and type of Metronome Notebook software you are using? I am on the lookout for such big Metronome Digits or a very big (!) screen metronome "conductor" signals - symbols of a baton or evene such changing digits ? Thanx

Sorry mate but as soon as you said '4 on the floor' i had to comment. He plays 'swung' doubles on the kick....on the 2nd beat of a dotted quaver and on the beat of the next note. Your hi-hat part is decent but yeah i think what i've said is more authentic..i could be wrong.
