Justin thanks for this, I played badly years ago and gave up, I was messing around with some simple chords and mistakenly waked in the D and G by picking badly and thought thats sounded like REM, and then came hunting and found your lessons, you have inspired me to pick my guitar back up at 53- I learned enough in 30 mins with your lesson to get me hooked again, going to buy new strings tomorrow- LOL Brilliant loads of respect to you Justin.....

Justin I am so happy to hear that you don't anchor your little finger. I lost my middle finger in a saw accident and so I have to use my little finger for the high E. it has been hard to give up that little anchor.

Like everything, practice, practice. If a person does something for 18 minutes a day ,in one year you will know more about that subject than 95% of the population. If that's not encouraging I don't what is.18 minutes a day is nothing.

Hey Justin, great lesson. (Long time viewer of your lessons. I have huge respect for what you do) I was directed here because I've just uploaded a finger style instrumental of this song and some of my subscribers thought I learnt it from you. I told them it was just coincidence and "great minds upload a like". Keep on playing bud and I hope you're enjoying those new digs. Drue.

Marty you have brought My version of wish you were here to a level that I can now play it out. And Justin you as well as Marty are adding songs to my 1960's reputar . I am having a real hard time figuring the bridge to Everybody hurts though is it in your song book?

Thanks, Justin. I've been looking for something like this. I've been finger picking this way for over ....25 years+. Not really applying this to any song but work with C, D, G or if I'm brave I'll do C, D, G then add A and E. Been looking into and practising blues fingering, Delta Tx blues and Piedmont blues. Having problems with my little finger hitting that sixth fret when playing the A chord. Also been practising with a Herco thumb pick, still getting used to this little bugger. Once I get this down I hope to share what I can do with you on youtube. Larry

+Ry Naylor Guitar Don't be like that! (kidding, sorta). I'm a bad guitar student with 7 years experience and I have learned what I know here on KZbin watching a number of different approaches to instruction. I seem to do better if I watch different teaching techniques. I always pick up some little thing from each instructor session. I just subscribed to your channel too! I appreciate your honesty regarding Justin's skills as a player and an instructor. I've been following him for years now!
@Rynaylorguitar9 жыл бұрын
+downhill240 Thanks for the comment and subscribing to my channel. I might have to do a tutorial on this song then. Although I don't tend to do tutorials on songs after having watched someone else do it. It colours how I might approach it. The only thing I would probably add to this would be using a pick for the patterns (which I think is done in the original). I'm a huge fan of Justin's and he's a bit of an KZbin idol for me. I've learnt so much from him for my own playing but especially with my teaching ideas. Much respect.

nice job for those who want to know, but I love playing it with my pick, I get a real nice crisp sound, you do need to learn how to pick it under control as you pick up and down the strings, your finger style was very nice tho, no doubt!!!! but for those who are learning, the pick is something you may want to try, plus its a great song to practice on controlling that pick. but you did a GREAT job as ALWAYS with your great Guitar lessons..thank you.

Please correct me but what I’ve noticed, if Picking in the Chorus, you don’t need the EM chord because you are just picking EGBE strings. And then you don’t need to do a full A chord because you are only picking AGBE strings. Like a stated above, please correct me if I’m wrong. Other than that, great lesson! 😁👍🏻

I have the same question . Do you know the answer yet? It seems you are right but I don’t know for sure. Im glad you asked

This is the song that got me complaining about barre chords and bony fingers. I was trying to keep the finger picking pattern going but could not for the life of me get a good change between F Sharp and B minor and back again without some strings being damped or muffled or buzzing. F Sharp 7 is no hope. I can get away with some inaccuracy with strumming, but picking clean bass and other notes while changing is too hard.
