I learned how to play by a friend showing me when I was a teen. I was hoping this video would be a good refresher but I'm thinking maybe having a practice game or 3 to demonstrate might have been more helpful for my dusty old brain. Regardless I thank you for sharing this

Alternatively, a gin bonus is 25 points instead of 20 and an undercut bonus is 25 points instead of 10. Also, there’s another rule called going “big gin.” A big gin bonus is 31 bonus points.

2:21 When your opponent knocks, can you as defender see their melds before choosing how to make your own melds? (To layoff most efficiently) I’m assuming yes, based on how your video displays it. I ask because 1:48 decision would ideally be made at the end of the round right?

Can you make that how to play cards
@goonerbear8659
@goonerbear8659 3 ай бұрын
Yes. When a player knocks or gins, both players reveal their hands. The player who didn't knock/gin may then lay off deadwood cards from their hand to the knocking/ginning player's melds before determining who won the round and how much they score.

My dad and grandfather played gin rummy at night on our boat when we would go together. They would play late into the night. In the morning there would be a legal pad with columns of numbers written down.
@zichenghan7585
@zichenghan7585 Жыл бұрын
One thing the video missed is big gin. A big gin is when you draw a card at the beginning of your turn and that card is a part of a set or run. So you have no deadwood out of your 11 cards, you receive a bonus of 31 points if you get a big gin. Variations may have a gin bonus be 25 points and the undercut bonus be 25 points. The line bonus (the amount of points received for each hand won) may also be 25. In some other variations the shutout bonus (the bonus given if the opponent did not receive a single point) doubles your points instead of adding 100. Also, a undercut is not possible against a gin or a big gin.

RULE CORRECTION: If a player knocks (unmatched cards = > 10), the opponents PAIRS COUNT AS DEADWOOD -- therefore, in this video, the TWO QUEENS would not be left out of the knocking players points - they would get 20 points for the pair of queens

So I’ve always just played that the first player to reach 100 pts wins the game. Why do you tally up how many hands you each win and what’s the purpose of the 100 pt bonuses? Is that all just for gambling purposes???
@xuploads

that's if you were going to play more than one game, as in you wanted to play for a longer amount of time. you could also just count one game as one 'win' and restart the game again like you're talking about.

Easy to understand, though I don't understand why you would receive 100 bonus points if your opponent hasn't scored any at all during the game. Surely that would be redundant, as you've clearly won?
@jasonmcnamee2227
@jasonmcnamee2227 2 жыл бұрын
It’s for when you are playing for money. Example if you were playing a penny a point you would receive an extra dollar (100 points) from your opponent for dominating him so badly. It keeps the opponent from conceding a game when very far behind. Makes every point count.
