I saw Muddy live in a club back in the early '70s with his band. Today all these years later, I realize how lucky I was and what a privilege. I got a table close to the stage, right in line with Muddy. He totally amazed me with his raw power and energy. He played his red Telecaster very loud and it was fantastic. Add to that his incredible voice. Anyone who saw him live will agree that records don't capture the man like his live performances. I've never seen anyone like him before or since, and I never will again. He was a living piece of history and the word "legend" is an understatement. I was truly in awe of him and I still am to this day.

I saw Muddy Waters play a small club in Charlottesville, Virginia in the late 1970s. He was in his middle 60s, but when he sang Mannish Boy he could’ve had any woman he wanted in that place. His voice was really big, but somehow his stage presence was simply HUGE. I’ve never seen anyone engage an audience the way he did.

@@imannonymous7707 He's a regular visitor to Seville. He played a gig and did a masterclass a few years ago and turned up with a blackguard Tele that was probably older than me (and I'm no spring chicken!). The last time he played here he was playing a B&G guitar which sounded amazing. He's a true legend and a really nice guy to boot. I treasure my signed copy of his 2012 album "Blues Around The World".

Hi Thom, great analysis and performance. I think I am gonna dig deeper in this song and the Muddy Waters thing trying to record it. What about an analysis of Rorry Gallagher stuff? Perhaps from his legendary Irish Tour? I am now sitting on his "A million miles away" working on it recognizing that his legendary phrasing is quite difficult. Greetings to Ireland, his homeland.

@@hijmestoffels5171 You're right. There's a D. So it's a D(#11add9). Says my chord analyzer app. It's a sub of E9, when adding E. But Thom doesn't plays the E. I' m not sure ' cos I'm also not expert in those things.

These days, blues is mainly about the guitar. But Muddy's band was an equal balance of harp, piano, guitar, bass, and drums -- a "blues orchestra".
