This is the best breakdown of all the pregame/earlygame thoughts that a support has to carry! I find that the higher MMR I get, the quicker my cores are to responding and understanding my call-outs on all the map movements I see and keep track of for the team. :P

Thank you! Yeah, the higher up you go the more likely you'll actually get team plays going. The lower in MMR you are, you'll have more opportunities to scale and go greedy since there's a lot of inefficiency.

taking a last hit even if your carry couldnt get it is a quick way to lose the entire game when your carry throws a instantaneous baby fit about that one cs for the rest of the match.

one of the things ive realized most recently, from this and the video you did with slacks earlier, is that. you can just use buyback if oyu have it, its not something that is suddenly available when your an hour in and they are seiging your t3s, you can use it like 20 minutes into the game to make sure the team fight ult you have actually gets used cause you got caught out, and securing and if the fight does continue to go poorly, atleast make sure a you save one or two of your cores in the process by simply being a body on the feild again. im still getting a feel for the correct time to use it, but if it saves a few teammates, enables a few kills even if i die pretty soon after under tower and the enemy mid tries to tilt over it, it still seems like a good idea in my book
@ColivaX
@ColivaX Жыл бұрын
Yeah it's huge - early game support buyback so under used - started consciously trying to do it more this year and it's turned quite a few games for me at key moments. Especially in the ;caught out before you used your ulti' situation you mention above.

Ive been playing Venomancer as pos5 lately with a lot of success against melee cores. Taking levels in posion sting early makes the right click really hurt. By adding that slow and poison damage, it really hinders their core and support from being effective in the lane against your carry when every time they come in for last hits they get slowed and damge over time on top of your base right click damage.

My rule of taught in dota, and i've always felt like this... You can't play carry if you don't know how to support, or you're much worse at carrying... In support you'll learn to watch the minimap, how to stack camps when you're farming, what's generally the area's the enemy team might have wards, When to really be careful and fall back, creep equilibrium and pulling, and also how to position yourself so you don't die during the early game. I really feel like knowing and being able to support will make you a much much better carry player

Block creeps for mid then tp to safe, that 100g tp is worth it if your mid gets the wave to be on his hill, depending on matchup ofc. Youd be surprised how many mids up to, and beyond 5k mmr just go for bounty runes / fb having no idea or just not caring of how important lane equilibrium is first 2 waves, I win the lane for them without them even realising it.

Hmm role queue wasn't a thing the last time I played. Can I queue for position 5 every game and just wait longer or is this a system that forces you into roles you are much worse at and enjoy less?
@Shadowserpant00
@Shadowserpant00 Жыл бұрын
you won't wait long queing pos 5, you would for 1 though. When you run out of role queue "tickets", you'll be forced to queue for all 5 positions, and for that game you will earn 2 tickets if you lose, and 4 if you win. But most of the time when you do this, you will get pos 5 lol

@ZQuixotix
@ZQuixotix Жыл бұрын
It's still possible but it means you have to be going to the offlane in order to sell the boots on time. Many people are opting for getting the actual starting items to be stronger in any fights that happen rather than having an empty inventory after selling boots. You'll still see it on occasion though (usually by the 4 support rather than 5)

I would recommend this vid to my newbie friends but I would expect them to find it to be difficult for them. Hey Zack, amazing video as always. I'm currently at Legend V and I've around %65-70 WR as pos 5 so I seem to be climbing up steadily. However, sometimes it is still unclear to me to decide what to do when my pos 3 and 4 are losing their lane and not playing carefully (playing tilted) after dying like 3-4 times. At that point, even if we're winning our safe lane, the enemy pos 5 feels pretty comfortable ganking/pressuring us back and forth. So my question is: Is it better to try to help the pos3 and pos4 to grant them some momentum by going top for a kill (or prevent them from getting killed) or is it a safer bet to stay in my lane and help my carry get more farm and also prevent him from getting pressured up. What should I be doing when I seem to be winning my lane but the offlane is losing extremely hard and they aren't trying to build back up, constantly blaming their mid or me (pos5) back and forth for not helping them out. My last few matches I've been dealing with many weak pos3 players that tilt so easily and can't really draft strategically so I keep seeing my pos3 and pos4 losing their lane and soon after, it's a snowball from the enemy safelane (such as CK, lifestealer etc.) and I'm not exactly sure how I should react to that.
@JS-tm1gq
@JS-tm1gq Жыл бұрын
I've seen other guides recommend you do go to offlane and pressure enemy carry in this spot. If your mid comes along they will freak out and generally the pos 4 will leave to defend safelane, leaving your carry to basically freefarm against the offlaner.

Not drawing creep aggro is so important, can't tell you how many last hits I've missed on melee carries because of this, also as a support don't just auto the creeps when there is "nothing to do" , the carries have a pace and a timing down for LH and you will make them very irritated.
@motchness

ohhhh so when i leave lane to double stack and proceed to jungle 3 minutes in to the game thats griefing the carry is it? so if i pick kunnka as a pos 5 and farm a shadow blade all game to counter the bristle, is that a grief too? then when the core gets angry we blame them for getting angry? (i swear some of the attitudes on pos 5 players doing this type of shit gives the dota community SUCH a bad rep, valve NEEDS to change the cuing system)

often times playing proper support on lower bracket gives u more leniency to win since people tend to be more selfish/uninformed and having proper bare minimum draft can punish them. although u kinda need to be slightly more selfish in case if your cores are incompetent (agh shaman to rat instead of trying to buy defensive items where your cores would dive 1v4 either way that no item would save them) personal tip is to focus on the best player on the team after 6-7 min imo. i used to be 4k pos 1 main who play supp every now and then to relax/change things up and got kicked down to 1k due to inactivity so i kinda understand. so far its doing well lol

I had the most annoying carry of all time, he was playing alch i was playing CM, i stacked so many camps in the jungle for him so i was low level and i wanted some experience from those stacks. First stack we cleared all was fine, second stack we cleared i got 1 last hit, one single last hit and alch just lost it. "CM is stealing last hits" "Worst support i've ever played with" "Where the fuck are the wards, this support fucking sucks" All because i accidentally took 1 last hit, it was wild, we lost that game because alch just stopped playing more or less and focused all his energy on telling everyone how much i sucked, for one single last hit.

One thing I've always wondered about is the cost of teleport. Sure, you can teleport here and there to be relevant to every fight, but teleports are quite expensive. So how do you do that quick math? I noticed that top level Dota supports are quite willing to die in the beginning, so I wonder if that's related. Sometimes I'll watch a hero at very high mmr to see how it's done, and the support dies without having to etc. To me it just looks bad, and maybe it even is in low mmr but not in high, I have no idea. The whole thing is quite mysterious.

I know how that feels, against enemy CM and SS my core would be like bkb is for losers. I recently played with AM who kept complaining when I secured range creep or any creep telling me to stop farming even though he could see them denying it and he was nowhere in range. Or a Void who keeps on silencing himself with MOM and blames the team for not saving him and dies without ever using chrono, NS who refused to do anything if it's daytime even if he has his ult, BS who rush force staff and octarine.. I've had so many brain dead and crazy rambo type cores its hard to win.. I was literally 1 mmr away from immortal and with the new map update I keep getting all these low level trash tier cores and fell all the way to guardian 2 and now I had to play carry to win games to offset my losing streak with playing support. Ironically I have 57% win rate using sniper as pos 5, but someone always complain and the chance of someone griefing is too high so I cant spam him. Current rank Archon 1.
