Good solid explanation. The rules you explained are spot-on to the rules I learned in my college days. I agree the music is a little loud and I suggest dropping the music altogether. Nonetheless I say "thank you" and tip my hat for a job well-done.

I kind of agree that players normally want to pass their high-ranking cards. However, sometimes players want to void theirselves of suit (except spades) if they only have three or less cards of that suit.

Question. For the fourth hand where card passes can not be done, if you are somehow dealt all 13 hearts, what can you do since hearts can't be played for the first trick of that round? Do you forfeit your hand or do you have to play a heart?

Well, since you have to shuffle the cards, this would hardly ever happen.

Here's what I don't understand. Why would you ever play your highest card? If you play your highest card...you "win" the trick...except..if you win a trick you get all the cards and points...which means...you will lose the game. Seems best to always play your lowest and never win. Then...you actually win. What am I missing? I'd think if the goal is to have no points, then the player with the worst card should take the trick, thus giving them the most points causing them to lose.
@FusionBlastoise17 жыл бұрын
Adam Marisett because you are forced to follow suit. Losing tricks is definitely better, but you will not always be able to “lose” the trick, especially since the winner of the trick gets to decide what suit to play
@reillywalker1956 жыл бұрын
Only tricks with hearts actually count for points, so it's okay to win tricks that don't have any hearts. If you're trying to shoot the moon, you need to win all of the hearts and the Q♠️, so you'd want to do all you could to win tricks.
@Bomb_ombs6 жыл бұрын
Not to mention if you expend all your low cards and only have high cards while the points are being played then you are stuck with all the remaining cards. Sometimes it's best to sacrifice and gain a few points to ensure that you don't start and avalanche of opportunities for others to dump their points on you in later hands.

This kind of sounds familiar to the game of Spades but is more like a suicide game where you want to score the least amount of points to win. That's if I'm understanding correctly. Sounds interesting but complex at the same time.

I've only ever shot the moon once, and it was completely by accident. (I was about 6 or 7 years old, playing on the computer, and didn't know what I was doing.) Now that I know how to do it, I've never done it. Between the two, however, I prefer spades over hearts. In spades, you do want the spades. In this game, you don't want the hearts.

@bluegamer42144 жыл бұрын

@lin2thez3413 жыл бұрын
yes. our family played this way - deal out the deck and if there are cards left over (like if you are playing 5 people) put those extra cards in the middle face down. We called that the "kitty". Whoever took the first hand also took the kitty. It gave you a power so to speak, because only you knew what was there - maybe a heart (so someone couldn't shoot the moon!) If the 2 of clubs happened to be in the kitty, we would start with the 3 of clubs.

Hearts is unique on so many levels. Here are the reasons why: - In this game, you want to avoid taking tricks containing bad cards in them. - You don’t want points. - The player left of the dealer doesn’t go first, instead the player with the 2 of clubs does.

When we played this Shooting the Moon either assigned 26 points to all other players or you got to reduce your own score by 26 points. See you didn't talk about Shooting the Sun. To Shoot the Sun you have to win every trick in the round. If you do so you reduce your score by 52 points.
