You dont need to move slower, its most likely that you have poor dribling control which makes you lose the grip on the ball and you automatically lose all coordination then

What do we do if the defender is not only faster than us but can shoot lights out and can finish in the paint because with that much space he can easily pull up and if you try to contest it a little he will blow by you or finish with a tough layup
@Silverhead1116 жыл бұрын
Papi Guss if you're guarding that person, that person must be greatest basketball player in history. If they can do all of that, that either means that your defense is very poor and that you need read the player and play to your strengths.
@supermanin106 жыл бұрын
I had the same question
@adept23426 жыл бұрын
Take this saying. "Whatever the defense does is wrong". In some situations, you can guard an opponent to the best if your ability, but he may still be able to score. The great players are great all around, good athletes, clamp on defences, good in transition, and can score whether driving or pulling up. In yhis situation, you just gotta keep him in front of you and play as best as you can. If he's smart, don't focus on the eyes, as good court vision will only deceive you with fakes. Instead, focus on his stomach, that will always be centered and he cant move without the mid section moving as well.

1 problem with what you said is sliding to keep with the fast player. Players that are super fast are to fast to slide to keep up with. Examples MJ, Allen Iverson, Ja Morant, John Stockton. Kyrie type dribbler will beat you with the crossover. You can move faster going forward than sideways. A super fast player will dribble around you. Sliding defense was invented in the 1950s or before when most players were average speed and dribbling rule did not allow crossover dribbles. It works great for Highschool ball. But the higher the level of play the faster and better footwork players have. Also the pass better. The only way a super fast player is stopped doing this is you have a taller and longer player guarding them that has great footwork and is fast too. Thats rare too. Otherwise you need a 2-3 zone or some other zone with a defender in the paint to help prevent dribble penetration. When you have a player helping you behind you it takes some pressure off you and allows you to defend better and if you get beat your help picks him up and stops him before basket usually. I have coached completive rec ball vs ex. Highschool Varisty teams of 20 yr olds. Also against ex college players. A D2 or D3 player is usually easily more advanced than a Varsity Highschool player. More experienced and more skilled.
