[Click show more for the chords] Learn to play this rare acoustic version of Moon Over Bourbon Street by Sting on guitar. All chords are demonstrated, with variations. My right hand fingers are plucking the treble strings on the beat for each chord and my thumb is playing the bass strings on the 2+ and 4+ for each chord to help it swing a little.
This is Sting playing his acoustic version...
• Sting - Moon Over Bour...
There are three main chord sequences...
A.
Em7-5 | A7 | Dm Dm+7 | Dm7 Dm6
B.
Bb7 | A7 | Dm Dm+7 | Dm7 Dm6
C.
Bm7-5 | E | Bb+7 | A7
And there are these...
Intro
Dm Dm7 | Dm6
Interlude
Dm F | Gm7 A7
The whole thing looks like this (with all variations as played at the beginning of tutorial) if you want to copy and paste...
Dm Dm7 | Dm6

I liked your version by searching for another guitar solo video as I made one without a singing part. But anyway, I loved it and I think it is great to share it with others no matter your humble addition: "Any errors are my own'.

I checked out that version and it's in Fm (discounting software pitch variation, stretching etc). The one on the Dream of Blue Turtles album is in F#m. Dm works well with the open D string, which is possibly why Sting chose that key for solo acoustic guitar. I'm guessing. Cheers!

Thank you DB for sharing, this one brings it home for me. I'm thankful for people like you who can dissect the tune and share it with the masses to butcher it and enjoy it :) Also shout out to Sting for composing the tune. This stuff is timeless.

Tanks a lot. It helped me aproach to playing the song, though i play piano. You lowered the bass on the Dm Dm+7 Dm6 which to me is vital.

thank you so much for this beautiful transcription and the demonstration! Such a great song may i suggest a variation for the "Dm Dm+7 | Dm7 Dm6" part, using barre chords: 5---5---5---x 6---6---6---6 7---6---5---7 x---x---x---7 5---4---3---x x---x---x---7 if i'm not mistaken the same but reversed to have a bass line

Indeed.... The descending minor run is very tastefull. Here it sounds super cool also its used many places: Michelle (Beatles) has that minor run so has Keith Jarret "memories of Tomorrow" also "Hairway to Stephen" (Led Zeppelin" and surprisingly "My favorite things" from sound of music, which is also a very nice tune. Summertime too. This site about chords progressions is very informative: www.angelfire.com/fl4/moneychords/DBL.html thx for posting very nice video..
