Nice idea... But starting with the sand in the middle gives a huge disadvantage to the team that goes first (in the video the red team)... Let me explain. Imagine the timer is 100 seconds (this works with any number). Reds have 50 seconds to complete the task, or they lose. Let's say they were lucky and did it in 40. Now Blue has a massive 90 seconds for the task. They do as well in 40 seconds. Now Red had 50 seconds again for the task. They do better and do it in 20. Blue have 70 seconds for the task. Aren't as quick as Red and do it in 30. This gives Red 60 seconds for the task... Despite matching or beating Blues times they are still getting less time for the tasks each time than Blue. It is highly unlikely that Red will win as for Red to win as overall Red has to have a cumulative time 50 seconds faster than Blue (resulting in Blue running out of sand), yet if Blue is say 40 seconds faster cumulatively than Red then Red has only 10 seconds for a task and will lose. If instead you started with the sand about 1/3 'full' (setting a time limit of 66 seconds) then the sand level would move back and forth around the middle with each team being set similar time limits. (Yes it would mean the instructions saying to "run the timer for 30 seconds" or whatever, but anyone playing this game even once will realise that it boils down to the coin flip as to who gets a huge advantage)
