Thank you, Andy! this was performed on the inaugural Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon on February 17, 2024. I remember staying up “late” (hey, it was a “school night”!) to see his first show. I was so in love with U2’s performance that I got out my ancient guitar and learned it the next day. Love all the nuances that you bring to the song; that’s why you are the best guitar teacher out there! BTW, Also meant to thank you for the lesson on “Big Log” too!😊

The sea wants to kiss the golden shore The sunlight warms your skin All the beauty that's been lost before wants to find us again I can't fight you any more, it's you I'm fighting for The sea throws rock together but time leaves us polished stones We can't fall any further if We can't feel ordinary love And we can't reach any higher, If we can't deal with ordinary love Birds fly high in the summer sky and rest on the breeze. The same wind will take care of you and I. We'll build our house in the trees. Your heart is on my sleeve Did you put it there with a magic marker? For years I would believe that the would couldn't wash it away 'Cause we can't fall any further if We can't feel ordinary love And we can't reach any higher, If we can't deal with ordinary love Are we tough enough for ordinary love? We can't fall any further if We can't feel ordinary love And we can't reach any higher, If we can't deal with ordinary love We can't fall any further, if We can't feel ordinary love And we can't reach any higher, If we can't deal with ordinary love

As usual, a fantastic lesson and exactly how it should be played to such a minute detail as how to handle your pick the way Edge does it ;-) I am back to every day playing after c. 20 years of break and it is no always easy however your tutorials are as professional as one can get and one does not need tabs to learn from you. Was wondering why E maj would be played with a different fingers combination than standard but then the following bar chord is so much more natural and easy to play. Thank you and greetings from Poland :-)

Excellent video anda analisis!! I do like both versions, the one recorded and the acustic live. Also as you really say well, Edge is a very smart guitarist, he knows really well every chord and how to play unusual chords, inverted chords, or chords without the 3rd. He´s usually unrated since he don´t acts as a guitar hero, moving his left hand quickly through the fretboard, but this one show how smart he is.. Thanks a lot for this video!

Very nice lesson sir. Thank you. I'm a beginner (old guy learning how to play) and I got the picking down (still trying to work on tucking the pick while I play the verse)... but I'm having a lot of trouble with the chorus strumming pattern. Any way I could bother you to write the DUDDDD out with the 4 chord changes? If not, no biggie... Once again, thank you for the lesson.
@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials10 жыл бұрын
Hey dante, as far as strumming goes, it's one of those areas that I honestly don't think about too much as it's more of a feel thing you know? Have you checked out Marty Shwartz or Justin Sandercoe, both on youtube. They have a lot of beginner type stuff where they get into the strumming patterns, in fact I think Marty does this song too and it's all strumming. Good luck and thanks for checking out my channell.

Hey Man - Thanks for the breakdown, and also the analysis necessary to do the breakdown! I also think this acoustic version is much more interesting than the original -- always love to see Edge's stuff translate well acoustically, because you don't think if it as being possible because so much U2 guitar work is meshed in the effects. But it can. And the lesson is great ... was hoping someone would do it, and you've done a stellar job ... faster than I expected.
@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials10 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul, thanks for the nice comment bro! To me, Edge is just a great musician and I really love the guitar part he came up with for this song. I mean I love all the U2 production with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois and all, but sometimes just a simple guitar can get the message through better right? I'm glad you're enjoying the lesson.
