The first piece i've ever learned from a midi file way before youtube. Learned it in about 5 hours as a complete n00b as i can't read music.

I'm a beginner and the fact that one can absolutely play 2 notes simultaneously with one thumb in the right hand (e.g. in the 2nd bar) amazed me! ;)
@Seleuce
@Seleuce 24 күн бұрын
Chopin actually was the first pianist to come up with that, playing 2 keys simultaneously with one finger. :D So he composed with that in mind, too. Lot's of his pieces require you to do that if you don't have 12 fingers or hands like Rachmaninoff. Chopin invented a lot of his playing technique as a child by himself. He also was the first to play the thumb on black keys, which was taboo in the common playing technique of his time, and came up with finger sliding (sliding down from a black to a white key without lifting the finger). You can't play lots of his music if you don't adopt his play style, that's how his technique partly changed the piano school.

Thank you so much for the tutorial. I listened to Chopin's 24 Preludes a few days ago and this one jumped out as one I might be able to play. It sounds almost like a church hymn. Great Tutorial!

Does your piano teacher not recommend you learn to read sheet music?
@pablobear4241
@pablobear4241 3 жыл бұрын
@@junheecho9800 I can read sheet music, but, I am moreso focused on mastering theory/technique. I value theory > sheet music and my theory knowledge is not good, sheet music helps for playing music, and I still practice it. Not for composing or improvisation theory is more important and for improv technique matters a good bit I'd say. Knowing chord progressions helps too but all of that stuff I value more than writing/reading sheet music, at my current level.
@junheecho9800
@junheecho9800 3 жыл бұрын
@@pablobear4241 as long as you can read sheet music and aren't trying songs off of KZbin tutorials then it should be fine. if you can read sheet music fluently then yes go to theory.
