Hey guys!
Following my cover of this godly tune I wanted to follow it up with an in depth Tutorial. Hopefully this covers all the areas of the song, and opens you up to bits you might have missed.
Had a bit of fun with a famous tune in the middle. Keep your eyes and ears open! Hahaha!
Thanks to Gripitgood & Maarten de Graaf for requesting this video.
HAVE FUN!
Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and leave a very NICE comment/request!
Enjoy!

Everyone else gives you Cliff notes...Sped gives you the full Shakespeare. He's one of the best on KZbin. Concise, well explained and to the point. Sped gives you every nuance to the song. One of the best!

My favorite tutorials are the ones played on guitars WITHOUT FRET MARKERS. That way it takes forever to figure what's being played where. The best part.

This has always been one of my favorited Led Zeppelin pieces, but I did it a bit differently back in the day. For one thing, I often took it to the open A to get this little trill Jimmy put in it at times - although that can be done in the middle of the neck too. For another I walked the climb to the highest voicing of the barred E. Eventually, I approximated the melodic counter melody along with the barred chords in the climb while playing the rhythm. Nice version he does, and the guitar sounds right for it too.

If you listen to the isolated guitar recording of the verse riff Jimmy starts it earlier while the solo is still happening. He also plays it fingerstyle and uses heavy open E and A strings. You can’t hear this properly in the studio full recording. If you search for isolated guitar for this song I think you will like the electric verse riff even more!

Actually, the 3rd Verse Electric Guitar Part - Guitar 2, would be more like a Jimi Hendrix styled Alternate Base, Hammer on pattern, utilizing the Open 6th String (E) and the Open 5th String (A) ! The only thing that you need to worry about, is, the Timing of the pattern. Hit the Open E and A at the 9th Fret and Hammer On to the 11th Fret (Bah Doom). Then 4th String (D) at the Barred 9th Fret, back to A 11th Fret (Dee Doom). Back to Open E + A 9th (Dum), Open E + A 11th Fret (Doom). Now move up one string to the Open A, utilizing the same pattern ! Open A + D 9th Fret, Hammer on D 11th Fret, Barred G 9th Fret (hit this 2 times), Open A + D 11th Fret (Doo Dil Dee Dil Doo). Then drop down two frets with the exact same pattern, Open A + D 7 th Fret, Hammer on D 9th Fret, Barred G 7th Fret (hit this 2 times), Open A + D 9th Fret (Doo Dil Dee Dil Doo). Now finish it off with D 6th Fret, straight into Open A + D 7th Fret (Doo Dee) ! So, it should sound like : Buh Doom, Dee Doom, Dum, Doom. Do Dil Dee Dil Doo, Do Dil Dee Dil Doo, Doo Dee. Now, simply start over and repeat until the end of the 3rd Verse, and then go Right into the Pre Chorus, and finish the song with the Chorus !

Sped - you are an excellent guitarist & great communicator. The production quality of your video is outstanding and I enjoyed watching it. If your intent was to show others how to play RO as Page does...you're in the neighborhood, but a bit off the mark in most of the sections. Very tricky to play this as Page does. Are you aware of the isolated tracks for the song that are available on the net? If your interested in nailing it, suggest you get those tracks and listen to them at half speed. During the electric chorus, Page accompanies on acoustic. On the outro there is an acoustic part that Page plays as well. You can hear both of these on the isolated tracks. Not trying to sound negative here, spirit of comments is meant to be constructive criticism - I really enjoyed your video

Great job on all this. I know you like it to be right so hope you don’t mind me giving my input but I’ve spent ages getting to the bottom of the “mystery section”. Listened to isolated track slowed to 50% and there’s no F# on descending part of the2 finger slide down. 3rd finger pulls off D string at 5th to to open D and then hits the F# and open G together followed by open G and D (B 3rd Fret) together. Then back to E to D chord at beginning of section.
