It can also be used as a savefile manager. So if you want to reset your Pokemon game, for exemple, but still wish to keep your old playthrough you can just copy it over your computer. This way you'll have multiple save files for even for game that originaly don't have.

There are high accuracy NES and SNES emulators that need a better PC to run but are just as good or better than the original console. Those consoles are quite old so pretty much any emulator will run them with no noticeable differences (mostly audio differences or the occasional glitch in obscure games). Bsnes, for example, is highly accurate and can run mode-7 games in HD, meaning that in F-Zero the road isn’t pixelated, it can also use a widescreen hack that enhances the experience in many games with minor graphical glitches in the area outside the original 4:3 aspect ratio. Nintendo 64 still isn’t super accurate but there are a lot of games that are miles better than in the original console, like Goldeneye with the mouse hack and Diddy Kong Racing in 16:9 aspect ratio in 4K with almost cero graphical glitches in the newest build of Project 64, can’t ever go back to playing it on the original console. A lot of time thinking emulation can never replace the original is just a mental bias, lots of games and consoles benefit from emulation like NeoGeoCD games on the Polymega with waaayyy faster load times or NES games that greatly benefit from using a superior and modern controller. My NES is quite old so I’m considering buying this to preserve and replay my games on my PC with my Xbox One controller or my Wii Classic Pro Controller, I can customise my own experience!
@metacross28265 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the ability to play the games on a modern display, adding mods or fixes to games or using an Android emulator to play your games on the go, truth is, the original consoles are outdated in many ways and will probably stop working in the future. tl;dr The future is now, old man

...Now this makes me curious. Imagine cramming a small form-factor PC into an N64's shell, and making it so that when powered on, the only thing that actually boots up is Project64, and it instantly loads whatever game is inserted, essentially making it an N64 with way more powerful hardware and HD screen resolution.
@Nintendrew7 жыл бұрын
Hah... very cool idea! I'd love to see a project like that. :)
@shootingstar71017 жыл бұрын
Oh, thanks! I can't build it though, no experience at all. The only setback I could think of for someone else though, is trying to load HD textures if Project64 is the only thing that boots up. If that could happen though... I'm placing bets on a "Nintendo 64 NEO" with 4k screen resolution and HD textures. It'd be kinda easy to run too, N64 is generally _very_ easy to emulate right now, from what I recall, so getting it running at 4k would be no hassle; I can play all games in 1080p + 8x anti-aliasing and HD textures, no slowdowns.
@MultiHeLiOs7 жыл бұрын
actually n64 emulation is the hardest compared to other platforms, people prefer to use dolphin's virtual console to emulate n64 games.
@shootingstar71017 жыл бұрын
I was thinking more on the performance-wise side of things. Every game I throw at Project64 runs at full speed.

Actually, if you got the balls this is quite simple, just download any simple open Linux distribution, get your CPU, GPU, RAM and all that stuff ready, and then install it all into a hard drive, check this out: askubuntu.com/questions/48321/how-do-i-start-applications-automatically-on-login And then wire the retrode to an internal USB port. This is a relative piece of cake to do, seriously.

I wondered to myself, "How does one even get ROM data from a physical game cart?" This video literally answered my question, but I was truly hoping to find out how it was "originally done," back in the day. I wonder how it was done before the simplicity of plug n play USB devices, and back when "90s Internet" didn't contain such robust info without serious keyword work. (maybe it was the same type of device, but connected on an older parallel/serial port or some other I/O shit that doesn't exist anymore?)

I wish I could find one now, I can never find a site selling them. That polymega device with the couple of cartridge modules they have so far is almost 500 dollars! You could literally build a system with the same specs and mod one of these into it and save money. You can build a 3200g system with an optical drive and one of these in a 3D printed case and essentially have a system that does the same thing with 3-4x the power. I really want to build one.

They should make a disc drive version of this for GameCube Wii and WiiU, Gamecube and Wii shouldn’t be to hard considering they run the same software via a Wi, WiiU however would be harder
@Sin_Alder Жыл бұрын
Technically GCN and Wii games should be possible to run in any dvd drive, it's just that they both spun the discs in reverse (which many drives are physically capable of, but not programmed to do), so someone would need to make special drivers for it. There are even a few drives on the market that are already capable of reading those discs, but they're so slow at spinning discs backwards that it's impractical to actually use. That said, if a drive were released with ou-of-the-box support for GCN, Wii, GD-rom (Dreamcast), and UMD (PSP) discs, I'd buy it in an instant.

0:50 GBA cartridges are *not supported!* There are limitations due to the adapors available. *so not supported are: GameBoy Advance, Nintendo DS, 3DS, PS Vita, NES, FamiCom, GameGear, Lynx, Wonderswan, NeoGeo Pocket (and more obscure Plattforms like N-Gage)*
@overlordalfredo6 жыл бұрын
NintendoGamer955001 “Dude“ Calm down... First of all you are wrong as the adaptor does *not* Support GBA Games! I own the same device and the exact same adaptors he mentiones and that for about 3 years now. And that is the reason why I stated the above list. There are several cartridges that are not supportet by any of the adaptors for this device. And therefore I listed the most common ones to inform people who might want to know if a specific format is supported or not. Nintendrew is not very accurate here in his video so I found it necessary to provide the update.

A question Drew (or anyone reading this), have you ever had a capacitor fail or fall off on a cart you own? The capacitor on my Star Fox snes cart fell off awhile back, and while the game still works, I don't want to risk ruining the cart or system by playing it. The retrode seems like a great idea for backing up games with hardware issues (including faulty capacitors), which is why I'm looking to get one.
