Hey Zero, speaking as a casual veteran player of smash, I found this super helpful and I'm looking forward to practicing these techniques. However, if you are wanting to cater to new players of smash who have never played the series before, I would highly, highly recommend making a dedicated guide for recovery options. I have seen a lot of new players play smash bros and the thing they always struggle with the most is getting back to the stage, even without being edgeguarded. I think a lot of times it ends up making the game feel too intimidating and scaring people away from a fun time with the game. I think spending some extra time on the very basic aspects of recovery, and maybe recommendations of characters with easy recovery, would help a lot of new players big time.
@AerialFire6 жыл бұрын
Can confirm, new player here. Last night 4 of us were playing and we were dying constantly when trying to recover. Watching this video it seems like our main problem was using specials too much and free falling to our deaths when missing and going off stage.

Wholeheartedly agree. I was up late with one of my friends unlocking characters, and they had a harder time recovering than any other aspect of the game.

I'm just not that great at fighting games even though I try to dedicate myself to them. I'll win a fight here and there online but never get a good streak going. @@crimsontide1980The best advice I got from a friend who I would only play smash with cause I thought I wasn't good enough to play others or online, is to play online anyway and play against CPU lvl 9. I consistently did it and at this point not only is AI way too easy, but I can hold my own against some GREAT players online. Don't hold yourself back worrying about if you're not good, it's a game! The more you push yourself to play anyways, it'll fall into place. Happy gaming!

Another way to do any other option, like tilts, out of dash/run is holding up instead of down or releasing the control stick while you have tap jump OFF. This way, you don’t run into the risk of accidentally crouching/mis-inputting and holding up acts like a “brake,” while not delaying you since tap jump is off.

something that is new in Smash Ultimate that ZeRo didn't mention here is that you can press jump and A at the same time for a fast short hop attack. this also works while holding any direction, even down for the appropriate aerial

There's been some talk on some Reddit threads about there being input lag on the GameCube controllers basically every controller except the Pro Controller. I'm glad I found the thread because I thought it was pretty slow gauged in slow to my commands anybody else feels this way with their controllers?
@ccs88476 жыл бұрын
Awesome Err I’ve swapped between pro controller and joycons and I don’t really feel a difference. Unless having joy cons on the switch gets rid of the lag. Who knows
@MrGameAndToy6 жыл бұрын
I was feeling a difference, but then I set my TV to "game mode" which reduces visual settings to improve performance, and then I didn't see any difference in input lag.

On the menus, gc controllers are really laggy, but once you get into the match itself, it's fine

it ignores me too rip we just have to get good enough to unlock elite matches
@he-who1516 жыл бұрын
I've been having trouble with that too. I don't mind the party matches that much, but I also wouldn't mind if the game would take longer to find matches if it found my specific options.

also if you’re having a hard time with short hop attacking, you can press your jump and attack buttons together and your character will auto short hop and attack in whatever directional input you have. might be easier for people who don’t use tap jump like me

Heres a tidbit on short-hop air attacking that may help, press Jump and Attack at the exact same time and it will automatically do a shorthop air attack. This works with every air move (Nuetral, side, up, and down) just be conscious of where your control stick is at and the momentum your character has, it can be somewhat difficult to pull off those intended Nairs and you will release a quick Side air instead. Practice makes perfect!
