Hey Zero, speaking as a casual veteran player of smash, I found this super helpful and I'm looking forward to practicing these techniques. However, if you are wanting to cater to new players of smash who have never played the series before, I would highly, highly recommend making a dedicated guide for recovery options. I have seen a lot of new players play smash bros and the thing they always struggle with the most is getting back to the stage, even without being edgeguarded. I think a lot of times it ends up making the game feel too intimidating and scaring people away from a fun time with the game. I think spending some extra time on the very basic aspects of recovery, and maybe recommendations of characters with easy recovery, would help a lot of new players big time.
@AerialFire
@AerialFire 6 жыл бұрын
Can confirm, new player here. Last night 4 of us were playing and we were dying constantly when trying to recover. Watching this video it seems like our main problem was using specials too much and free falling to our deaths when missing and going off stage.

Wholeheartedly agree. I was up late with one of my friends unlocking characters, and they had a harder time recovering than any other aspect of the game.

Save your air jump like person above me said, then learn the timing of recovery(up B/special). Try to time it as soon as you hit the top height of your jump. Recovery just takes practice, you'll get used to it.

I hate that the games I really find cool that I really wanna get good at,no matter how much I play it,I never seem to get any better. I played Smash Bros on the Wii U every single day without fail,usually a couple hours a day,and I just never seemed to get much better at it. I'm just not that great at fighting games even though I try to dedicate myself to them. I'll win a fight here and there online but never get a good streak going. More often than not,I get my ass handed to me.
@Sheleesi
@Sheleesi 5 жыл бұрын
@@crimsontide1980The best advice I got from a friend who I would only play smash with cause I thought I wasn't good enough to play others or online, is to play online anyway and play against CPU lvl 9. I consistently did it and at this point not only is AI way too easy, but I can hold my own against some GREAT players online. Don't hold yourself back worrying about if you're not good, it's a game! The more you push yourself to play anyways, it'll fall into place. Happy gaming!
@crimsontide1980
@crimsontide1980 5 жыл бұрын
@@Sheleesi Thank you so much for the awesome advice! What you said makes a ton of sense and I believe I will be trying this out tonight. There are a ton of really skilled Smash Bros players online so I guess I tend to feel overwhelmed after watching videos of some of them playing and dont believe in myself enough to stand a chance. If you dont believe in yourself, you cant expect to do well. I'll try to up the CPU difficulty to the point where I'm starting to win and build up some confidence. Thank you for your words of wisdom!

@@MeetKazuya It's not. Technically, with the digital triggers and extra bumper that pro controllers have, they give you a slight advantage. Also if you plan to do tourneys you have to have a wired controller. If you just like the design and aesthetic of gamecube controllers, check out the powera gamecube controllers. Same price as pro controllers with all the same perks. I really recommend them. Only like 25 bucks for the wired ones.

Another way to do any other option, like tilts, out of dash/run is holding up instead of down or releasing the control stick while you have tap jump OFF. This way, you don’t run into the risk of accidentally crouching/mis-inputting and holding up acts like a “brake,” while not delaying you since tap jump is off.

As a veteran player to the series, there are a lot of good fundamentals here. The one thing that I’ve noticed a difficulty with is how the new perfect shield works. I’ve only been able to do it a handful of times. The game is so fast that it seems like Ultimate has reached DragonBall Z levels of speed and offense. I find myself using very little defensive options so far.
@themidnightotaku22
@themidnightotaku22 6 жыл бұрын
Picking ONE specific character to be your main in Ultimate is ridiculously difficult considering how they fixed the speed of veteran fighters and the new cast that have promising(and possibly broken) new moves that can catch other players off-guard.

Heres a tidbit on short-hop air attacking that may help, press Jump and Attack at the exact same time and it will automatically do a shorthop air attack. This works with every air move (Nuetral, side, up, and down) just be conscious of where your control stick is at and the momentum your character has, it can be somewhat difficult to pull off those intended Nairs and you will release a quick Side air instead. Practice makes perfect!
