Stephen A video called how to deal with disjoints/longer range attacks. For example making them whiff the attack and punish the end lag, if it’s an aerial run past them (to their backside) to where they end using the move in the wrong direction, etc.
@taylorgreniger59616 жыл бұрын
@@justsomebird4285 Problem with most Fire Emblem fighters is they space you out so much with their range and don't have enough landing or end lag on their attacks for you to viably counter them except with some of the fastest grabs or dashes in the game
@justsomebird42856 жыл бұрын
Taylor Greniger Yeah I can understand how some sword characters may be a particular issue for slower characters. You can of course use any projectiles you have early to get a lead and make them want to approach, but that depends on if your characters projectile is suitable for that or if your character even has a projectile. Typically when I deal with any sort of move that I know has very little end lag, I tend to move into a distance that would make it seem like I’m trying to punish them. As an example I’ll use Meta Knight’s Fsmash. If a Meta Knight uses Fsmash I’ll run in and just shield, then if they attempt to stop my feigned punish I’ll block the attack or spotdodge, especially if they try to grab instead of using another random attack. This way I know they are using Fsmash and it’s super low end lag as a bait for them to attack me before I can punish them. If they jump away or do any sort of other evasive option like Roll or spotdodge I’ll know they were trying to hit me with it, but habitually avoid anything I might throw at them after seeing that it didn’t land, and if the shield I know they might want to defend against the attack I would’ve used had I chosen not to just gather info on their reaction. If I can’t punish the move itself, I’ll punish it bait out the option that I know they will use after that move without properly thinking; you kind of have to force yourself to think a couple steps ahead or else there’s not much else you can do. So if they shield by habit, I’ll grab, roll/jump/spotdodge or any particular evasive move of theirs, I’ll hit them as they attempt to escape by reading it. If they try to retaliate I’ll consider what the most common move they would retaliate with is and apply counterplay to it, so like Spotdodge it, shield it, or jump over it or Dash dance away and back in, etc. to get my punish. Sorry for the long explanation I’m not very good at keeping stuff like this short and sweet

An essential tip is to master your dodging techniques, a lot of samus, link, and ness mains NEED to hit you with their projectiles to establish combos. Every time people spam projectiles at me, I always keep a distance and it forces them to walk the shortest bit closer to me so they can land their hits. They'll try to hit me again and I'll dodge, nair, and then punish. Once you take away their main technique, it opens up their weaknesses which consist of an inability to short hop, melee combo, block, or grab. Also reading your opponent is good too.

As a Robin main, I find I struggle heavily against zoners with better long-range tools than me, like Samus or Link. I'm getting better, but am still getting used to a lot of Ultimate's mechanics now that perfect shielding as it was back in 4 is gone. Jumping usually seems to be the best way to deal with projectile characters, but keep in mind that most of them have anti-air options that do pretty decent damage. Every situation is different, and having knowledge of the matchup seems to be the best way to find success.

As a Ness/Lukas main you should know smash Ultimate has ruined your name. More than before all I've seen from Lukas and Ness is spamming pk fire until I'm off stage and then it's a constant spam of pk freeze/spark. I think I'm honestly seen Lukas/Ness online that do that, and when I get them off they don't even know how to recover because they're just trying to cheese with the characters

You only talked about counter play for 1 projectile at a time lol. But it's way more complicated and hard then this. You didn't talk about what you do when there are multiple projectiles on screen. Like you can't just jump over links arrows because he will boomerang upwards right after covering ground and air. Same with Richter. Not really helpful :/
@Daniel328DT6 жыл бұрын
It's why you got to be patient. He said you shouldn't be jumping and dashing all the time. Sometimes carefully moving closer is all it takes to get some opportunities. Punishing rolling and air dodges if they punk out from the corner of camping. Play it safe and dont always shield every projectile.
@calamitynatsu16726 жыл бұрын
Just shield and walk then
@robertej096 жыл бұрын
@@Daniel328DT I know patience is key in these types of MUs, but when a Belmont throws the Holy Water on the ground and removes the more up close option, throws the Axe to close off the jump over the fire option, and then throws the cross to continue the pressure, it's pretty impossible to get in. Especially since they can always use their long range tilts, f smash or aerials if you get to close. As predictable as it is, fighting a Belmont is very degenerate and if they have a lead (probably because you messed up one or two times, let's be honest) the need to close the gap becomes much more urgent, which of course leads to more mistakes.
@TheWilliamSnfrd6 жыл бұрын
@@robertej09 lemme give you Belmont advice. All the projectiles have lag. So you have to be patient and wait for the opening. (Usually I find one right after holy water and you shield the cross--or shield the cross and run under the axe that they throw next) once you get the opening you run in, and Belmont's get very scared. I've seen that almost always like to roll backwards. So hold out! Keep running with their roll and then since you read that roll like a boss, you can punish how you like. Smash attack, tilt, dash attack, or start a combo. (Similar with links I believe but I haven't played against so many.)
@Nawer_Rapter6 жыл бұрын
@@robertej09 Since I like a lot the character-concrete ways, some things of some characters and map layouts: -Ridley is really good to just jump over all the Belmont and go with the down-air spike hit, also side-special is good when you get the gap. The down-air is better on platformless maps, since you can end up in a platform or he could have more comfortable ways to move (that's what I've seen on experience) -Belmon'ts zoning is easy to avoid with Megaman side-shit. That small dude is a hell of a machine. -Wario's neutral-special and side-special are good for moving (sometimes) around the projectiles. -Game Watch's bucket is a anti-holy grial -Lucario's and Greninja's counters are good to move around if you face it right, instead of using shields or so, I've found it pretty useful (greninjas teleport is the most useful of both, imo) -Incineroar benefits a lot of the predictable behaviour of Belmont's zoning with his down-special and can enter fast and hard if you catch the Belmont with up-special and side-special. -Bowser Jr up-special is risky but useful too on evading and punishing, but you'll mostly get punished after it, mostly like Kirby down-special. -Small characters are god's of rolling Belmont's, that's how I usually play Pichu (Haven't tried with Pikachu, I don't play him neither inform myself of him that much) -Palutena works pretty well against Belmont with her moveset. - Also I'm a casual player. Really critical but in practice some of those can't be useful against a -truly- good player of Belmont(Bowser Jr, for example). Most of those are a bit obvious and probably the best way to go (as always) is to mix up things to confuse the oponent. Some have said too, but Belmon'ts projectiles are really laggy, I find harder to deal with a Megaman who knows how to aim rather than them, that's something easy to see if you have played some zoners on other fightning games, or at least it feels like it.
@WhiteWeaseI6 жыл бұрын
You can also deal with some projectiles if your character has a really low crouch. I know Wii Fit can just duck under falco's lasers and his shine, to the annoyance of a few campers I play with.

I think you should put more effort into these, they could really be something great but you do it all one take and really seems like you’re just saying stuff on stream that can go in a KZbin video. Why would you block and then jump?

Someone like villager set up traps with their projectiles thanks to their slow moving speed. A common one is to follow it and grab you because you're shielding their projectile. See if all else fails use palutena. Her down-b is a counter and a reflect so as long as you time it right you can beat projectiles by doing that. Here's a tip against the YL matchup: they will usually use a forward aerial attack after using the arrow or boomerang at close range because both of those moves combo into a fair. That being said, don't try and punish with an aerial of your own after shielding their projectile or else you'll take a Fair to the face. From my experience you should try and punish with a grounded attack instead.
