Its like a blend of finesse and passion. Some pieces I see pianist utilize their arms and it adds such a dark, expressive moment. Definitely not for speed and accuracy. So I agree it fully depends on which style and more importantly which piece you are playing. The Wrist work makes it sound like a nice ethereal blanket caressing your cognition. Loved watching this video, your form and technique is superb! Immediately arrested my mind, so with that you gained a Subscriber and Like :)

Thank you very much. There is so much to learn as far as proper articulation is concerned. It is sometimes quite confusing for someone learning (especially at the beginning) because the advice we get from different teachers is not very consistent. There are definitely slightly different approaches and preferences. The beginners do not have the ability to discern clearly what the general rules are.

for not being familiar with the piece being played, i could def tell the difference between using the arm and the wrist. The arm is very clumsy and cumbersome when play staccatos on piano. the wrist is more graceful.

Thank you for this. I’m 66 so it’s important for me to use correct positioning to prevent injury. I used my right thumb incorrectly and it took forever to heal. The only silver lining was that I got lots of practice on my left hand, which I guess is never a bad thing.

The wrist must never be locked between notes for any type of music. It might be locked at the point of impact with the keybed, but immediately released.

Can you explain how different between semi-staccato, staccato, staccatissimo? Thank you
@fredericlinden3 жыл бұрын
What you ask is similar to splitting hair in two... It is a relative to the value (written duration of the notes) and obviously the tempo. Experiment yourself by recording the same passage utilizing different separation of the notes. Simple.
