Makes sense bc it’s the same guitar player haha. Quite sure you knew that tho. Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards are the best complimenting players to one another in rock and roll history. Their open tuning licks shaped the 60’s and 70’s. I’m only 33 btw, but my taste in music obviously doesn’t match that lol

It's amazing to me how you can remember every dang note on all these songs by various artists, and they created them, but they can't play them the same twice, but you nail them time after time.I'm not cutting them down,I'm just in awe how you can be so consistent in your delivery.I love these lessons,I know you worked hard to accomplish this level of retention and muscle memory, but it just seems to come so easy for you and hang there.Thanks.

Man, this is good. I FINALLY get to see how it's truly played. I've played it with the E on the 4th fret and of course the 7th fret but never open tuning. I feel foolish. Excellent lesson. I never noticed it before but in the outro I hear the opening chords of Pool Hall Richard.

My favorite band, my favorite song and the best guitar teacher on the web. I let out an audible wooo hoo when I opened my email. As usual, you nailed it. Two guitars? No wonder I never quite "got it". Few bands could equal the faces playing live. It was brilliant drunken chaos. Speaking of Ian Mclagan- search KZbin for his "Never say Never" video. Listen to the lyrics, if that doesn't bring a tear to your eyes nothing will. Simplest guitar ever in that song (besides Smoke on the Water of course) but it's just perfect. Time to sneak down the cellar and break out the Les Paul...I know how my weekend will be spent. Thank you...Thank you....Thank you. Time to donate.

Many years ago (pre internet) when I started learning guitar I just used chord charts from books. For the normal E shaped bar chord I didn't know I was supposed to bar the entire fret with one finger so I hooked my thumb over the top to grab the 6h string. Hendrix also did that. Worst thing I did tho was I reversed my pinky and ring finger from what I should have done and I put my pinky on top (the 5th string). I eventually learned how to bar with my index finger but I have never undone the reversal of the ring and pinky fingers. BTW I have small hands but reaching over the top was never and issue for me. You just have to rotate your wrist above center line of the neck. Anyhow, great lesson again. You remain the top of the food chain when it comes to these lessons. You set the bench mark.

You nailed it for me when you said one of the classic intros ever, I have always felt that too, when I am driving along and this song comes on the digital do da thing I turn the volume up to 11 and then speak to digital thing to play again and again and again, only a few songs I do that too and this is one of them, another is Hawkwind Silver Machine check that one out, but be careful you will be doing 100MPH in no time, back in the day I got a lift home ( i had missed the last bus ) from Leeds city centre to home about 5 miles to walk, by the Faces tour bus they saw me walking along (long hair type then) stopped and just about took me to my ( parents ) front door, a guy I guess was a roady gave me a bottle of beer and talked to me, I could see the band at the back of the bus but never got to speak to them. now 40 years later I think I will put one of my Guitars into open E and try this out for myself, thanks for the Vid it will make it much easier.

Back again. This is an excellent tutorial, totally perfect. As a guitarist playing since the seventies, and used to playing note for note and figuring out songs, this is a still totally excellent. Will just mention, I’m struggling with the very first part of the intro, when you have the first three notes, and then hit the low E twice, there is the slightest hesitation there that to me really takes it to another level. I’m hitting it right in a beat, and then when I try to hesitate, it’s too late. I notice you do it perfectly when played at speed, but slowed down I am not sure but it seems you hit the beat like I am. Oh well, Just gotta work in it to nail it, as you do. Also the Rythm part in the verses. Thanks for pointing out how much is going on there, the variations that come and go. I was working off a live version if the song, which they played more straightforward, but just bought the original and can clearly hear a lot more activity as you showed. Trying to figure out if there is a “sense” to it or if it is just random when they play more straight or add beats and notes from the normal shuffle style. As we get older, at least me, sometimes we gloss over the small details (I notice band mates do this too) in the rythm section. I think a lot of times we listen to a round of the verse and Think “ok that’s the verse part” and don’t realize the cool things they do to make it more interesting. Your videos are just perfect for someone that can already play, and I LOVE that you often also offer a demo version to play along with! Hope you keep churning them out! Thank you!

This is quite interesting. Some years ago, Paul Warren (former guitarist for Rod Stewart) described for me how he plays this tune in concert and he told me to just drop the A5 to G and play it there, however I've always kept playing it in Standard tuning for expediency and practical reasons, AND cuz I felt I did it justice at least as well as Drop G. Now that I hear this, I'm have to reconsider my approach because this kind of nails it on a certain level. Kudos man. Glad I've stayed on your email list!

I loved this song immediately when I first heard it. It has an obvious Stonsey-ness to it. But I didn't know it was Ron Wood at the time. I found out a few years later, even though I was already a Stones fan. And no wonder. Ronnie was wanting into the Stones (as if that's a reasonable goal!). But THIS song cemented his spot, methinks.

Great job. I really enjoyed your lesson. I agree with you, keyboards would have been great. The keyboard break in the song and Woods style of rhythm are what drew me to this back in the early to mid 70's. I saw Rod live in Cleveland at Richfield Coliseum. Hot Legs, Maggie Mae, and Stay with me, my favorites. Thanks again.

Hot legs is also fun to play. I played drums and a lot of screw ups when playing that song for our 2 guitarists. .lol I think it was best to have 3 on that song. We would be more surprised if we all got it right. There's a sweet bass Riff as well and one of the best leads with sweet backing rhythm.... Underrated leads... Yea there was too much disco going on and Rod did a little..lol
