Same here....neon is super duper hard...and i guess im still not good...cus in last chord john is doing sliding with thumb but it seems almost impossible for me
@brianmendez35153 жыл бұрын
@@dipeshmanandhar3220 hey..I suggest you don't use thumb ..you should realise not everyone can use the thumb...I substitute that with other fingers..John has a very weird hand and it's very difficult to try and copy...and that is where u r wrong..don't copy him..try and find comfortable finger position...I learned neon in one week..like every John Mayer songs it's easier than it sounds..
@oisinfitzgerald54013 жыл бұрын
@@brianmendez3515 wouldn't say it's easier than it sounds. Nailing every part of that right hand technique is very difficult. And I also don't think the chords he's playing are particularly hard to play. The tricky part is nailing the right hand. I think everyone should try using the thumb. It's integral to so many songs and I've seen people with very small hands get it, and people with large ones get it. All about practice
@brianmendez35153 жыл бұрын
@@oisinfitzgerald5401 oh yes..I don't think the song is very easy..but the right hand just has a repeating rythm..I actually didn't find it very difficult to learn..also ..I use an older small 18 fret guitar .so holding the thumb in the higher frets is a no go..so I just use the other finger. I may have found it easier because I do play fingerstyle a bit and so I was used to the movement a lot.. The fourth chord in neon is not something every player can do..and I don't think u have to force yourself to hold the chord exactly like John.. If you can use the thumb ,use it..😁 (Note: I am talking only about the fourth chord)

Well ironically, this is harder for me to play than neon.

thank you for the lesson. I know it must take a lot of time and effort to put together this sort of content and when it is very well done, as your video lesson is, it has a lot of meaning to the user. I started this video last night, a little, late, but after the first 10 minutes of video, I paused and shedded the main groove until it finally came together, and that is mostly down to how well you broke it down. Most licks or riffs that I find really difficult is a matter of finding that right combination of timing--like jumping in to a double-dutch jumprope? A new song is a precious gift in these dark times. Many thanks. Respectfully,

Thanks man. Been trying to figure out this John Mayer Chugga Chugga thing. Trying all sorts of stuff. Open hand slap, palm mute those strings. Kinda obvious to just slap it with the thumb... Got that straight up but which was nice, thanks to your instruction. I've been informed by watching my classical music playing wife and children on how to practise and how to commit to it. Break things down, slow the tempo and practise, a lot. My wife especially playing a couple of bars that i think already sound great , but she'll practise those few bans for hours for weeks... here I am throwing songs away and feeling defeated after a few minutes. looking forward to putting the time into this song. it's so easy without the chug and the chug is easy enough.... how to put them together. Think it with help me a lot with some other songs I couldn't figure out these 2 string mutes, other strings ringing out stuff. And yeah. I've heard John Mayer talk of lying down for hours ,playing bits he has come up with to get them sounding ' Liquidy'. Believe that was the term he used. Thanks again man.
